After Action Report: Reno Gunblogger’s Rendezvous:
Actually, you’ll have to wait until I can extricate myself from the lotus position I was forced into on the plane home. Full plane. Every seat taken. Me jammed into the last seat on the F row. Not pretty.
Oh, and if you weren’t there, you suck. The gunbloggers rule.
Do we know how to have a good time or what!
….. Mr. C.
Now I have finally met you, imagining you in the lotus position, in an airplane seat cracks me up. LOL.
As Mr. C says
FYI Kiwi is the nickname used internationally for people from New Zealand. The name derives from the flightless bird native to New Zealand, the national bird, not the noise it makes, thank god, as the noise is a high pitched kinda whistle, I don’t think we are a bunch of goofy *high pitched whistlers* well, maybe some are Ha!
Geez!! I am tired I realize you are asking why the Kiwi is named so, not why the people of NZ are called KIwis.
I will get back to you. I am late for work.
I thought maybe it was because they had a song that went “keewee” “keewee” and if so, I was going to wonder why they aren’t extinct, because at three in the morning that would be a little irritating.
Og, the Kiwi’s name comes from the Maori language, and imitates the male Kiwi’s call during the mating season, and you are right, it is a wonder they are not extinct after creating all that racket in the wee small hours. It is lucky for them that they, mostly, live out in the heavily wooded areas away from humans.
Now I will admit, I did not know why the bird was named Kiwi, I just accepted the name and did not show any curiosity ,goes to show we are never too old to learn. Kinda shameful I do not know more about our national symbol
*blush*
A lot of birds are named for the song they sing. The Whipporwill. The bluejay. The bobwhite, the chickadee. I just figured the Kiwi followed the same pattern.
