WTF is it with Palin?
Mr Porretto has a post up about the lady in question, and it raises, in my mind, the question, for my liberal readers. What is it that troubles you so about her? I’d really like to know. It boggles my mind that she’s so hated. Broad used to call her “Scary spice” but never once articulated what she thought was so wrong with her. I don’t think anyone can, all they have to bring to the table is ad hominem.

I think the love/hate reaction to Palin is about class and elitism even more than it is sex and liberalism. Palin didn’t go to the right schools, didn’t check the right boxes on the way up, doesn’t know the right people and can’t even speak correctly. How dare she present herself as even theoretically equal to the east coast elite?
I’m willling to concede she’s not as qualified as I’d like for her to be in line for the presidency. In her resume, she’s no Dick Cheney, nor even a Ronald Reagan (yet); Reagan had been involved in and thinking about politics for quite a while by the time he was elected.
What she does have, is a positive record of accomplishment as a freshman governor (which is to say, as an executive). But her critics aren’t calling her green and asking if she’s all we’ve got; they’re ignoring all that in favor of a caricature found only in their heads. If an ivy-league educated, ball-busting feminist had taken on corruption within her own party and won in a small eastern state, and followed up with a few positive if modest accomplishments as governor, I believe she’d be treated as the second coming by the people now knocking Palin.
Furthermore, everything they say about Palin, all the stuff that’s over the top, and the implied base (i.e., she’s green) that isn’t over the top, applies double to Obama, who was at the top of his ticket. Community organizer to state senator to US senator to president, all without a single accomplishment in any previous role. Obama is not only a master of the art of failing upward, he is as green as lefties claim Palin is, but he had the advantage of the right schools and the right connections, and of course “our sort” could never be unqualified.
I can tell you why the Alaskan democrats hate her – She neither “transcends” nor “repudiates” the stereotypes of Alaska that they hate in their drive to make us a second Seattle. I can tell you why the Alaskan republicans hate her – she’s had a long career of pissing off people who have made plenty of money and power by holding out their hands and looking the other way, and how dare she attack her “own side” like she attacks the democrats?
But then, I hear plenty of debate about what she might be like and very little real substance.
Just like Dan Sullivan is now getting blamed for the sorry state Beigich-boy left Anchorage finances and taxes in, nobody ever seems inclined to state what Wasilla was like when she started as mayor.
No one ever mentions that as mayor, she railroaded a bunch of developers out of town who were throwing up housing for the Anchoragites flocking to cheap land to raise a family, and putting substandard insulation in. You could buy a brand new house and get an $800 heating bill your first month, before she started taking scalps. That really pissed off a lot of developers, contractors who were making money hand over fist fixing the new houses, and really irate home inspectors and appointers she summarily fired. Who the hell was she, to fire politically connected people without consulting anyone or bowing down to pressure?
Wasilla itself is a small town, but the Matsu valley around Wasilla/Palmer is the fastest growing area of the state, flooding with people driven out of Anchorage by high prices & taxes. A lot more than 5000 people live outside city limits, and a lot of people voted her into governor. We were, as you say, underwhelmed with surprise when she did the same thing to the oil and gas commission. Ballsy, politically suicidal, and generally leaving her constituents on top – that’s our Sarah.
This sums her up nicely:

Hi Tim,
Your link is 404. I checked the Jon Stewart archives and watched it anyway as he is kinda funny. It actually laughed at a few of the Palin caricatures. Really.
But, Tim… its Jon Stewart. He is a comedian -and a politically biased one at that. His feeble arguements are a bit light intellectually.
If you want a serious discussion about Sarah Palin, could you try a more serious venue?
Besides, when Jon Stewarts feet get held to the fire when it comes to talking politics, he hides behind the fact that he is ‘just a comedian’ comedian (“Clown nose on, clown nose off”) so he doesn’t have to answer political questions in a serious manner – and yet is taken seriously by people like you.
Been there with Jon Stewart before. Please try a more serious political pundit and not a sneak who fights behind a sniper blind.
Comedian or not, he has a point, imho. She’s not stupid – stupid people seldom do as well as she has so far – but she’s not what her fans appear to think she is, namely a leader. I think she’s a phony, a poser, someone who says whatever she needs to say to get what she wants, which is apparently just plain old fame and fortune. I’m hoping she sticks around long enough to screw up the 2012 elections, but I have a feeling she won’t make it that long before her true colors really start to stand out.
I mean, seriously, resigning halfway through her first term as governor, cashing in on her moment, and nobody blinks an eye?
Just my opinion…no need to argue the point, really – just wait and see.
Alright, Tim, you just gave yourself away.
See, theres this little thing called Integrity. It is the reason Palin resigned halfway through her term so that she could concentrate on defending herself from malicious ethics complaints etc. that would have prevented her from doing her job.
on the other hand, Brak, who never did a goddamned useful thing as Senator kept the senator paycheck the while time he was campaigning, from the very beginning.
Idiot. yes, wait and see.
“cashing in on her moment, and nobody blinks an eye?”
…ummm… Tim? The press ‘shot her at dawn before breakfast’. They completely trashed her – just like they did during the campaign.
Your just aping the news talking points, Tim. Your saying nothing new.
Well, first of all, the whole idea of expressing an opinion is to “give yourself away”….isn’t it? As for saying nothing new, just what has Ms. Palin had to say that wasn’t put in her mouth by others? Is that what passes for integrity now? Let’s look at that.
If we just stop looking at the ‘image’ and look at her actions alone, she resigned her position of responsibility, one she swore to the people of Alaska to uphold, and had someone ghost write a book at a time that it was sure to become a best-seller. Timing is everything (in both senses) Her actions are the only things new she’s had to say. And they say sell-out. That’s integrity?
I’m guessing she’ll be gone from politics in two years, probably to become a Fox News spokes-model, talking out of both sides of her mouth like Carl Rove does now. Too bad, too. She’s been a great source of comic relief.

That was too difficult.
“that’s integrity” yes, you purulent sack of shit, it is. She was under so much fire from the media and other groups who were bringing charges of corruption against her (Charges that have since been proven untrue) that it was costing the state of alaska money, and she resigned so that it would not. She swore to husband that resource, and once she could not, she resigned. That is the fucking definition of integrity, though you may have no idea, having most likely never encountered it before. Nor would you probably know it if it was jammed up your ass.
Look: here’s how you say you dislike a candidate:
” I disagree with his/her stand on X. I dislike his/her stand on Y. ”
Each and every commenter to this thread who has disliked palin has done so solely on the basis of bullshit propogated by the leftist media, which means you are completely willing to swallow every turd they shit hook line and sinker, and spout it back as “reasons you don’t like her”. Proving to me you’re all fucktards.
Carl Rove. Hah. man, you fucks were terrified of that man. makes me giggle to think about it.
BTW, Cond is completely accurate about “Talking points”. I’m not surprised you react so violently to being called on it. Sucks to be you.
Haha! Good one, Dick.
