Snow.
Maybe a quarter of an inch, at most. Nothing to speak of. Roads wet and icy.
Probably means Mr B got a foot.
I got a nice extra envelope at work yesterday that allowed me to do a few things for the Ogwife and Oglet I usually cannot do; our Christmases are- as they have always been- focused on the daughter. The gifting part of Christmas, to me, is about children. The wife and I have been in the habit of wrapping up toiletries and occasionally things we already own to make it seem like we’re making out like bandits, and the Daughter has never noticed. Today I set up the wife’s present and I could not be more excited to give it to her.
Our Christmas experience has always been a spiritual one and not materialistic; still, to be able to do something nice for the people I love is extremely exciting to me.
As I get older, I find that I’d much rather listen to Silent Night than to Jingle Bells and that I get more pleasure from watching others open their presents than I do from opening my own.
Merry Christmas, Og.
Yesterday I sang “Sleigh bells” under my breath all day.
So cool. And so very right — it’s the giving that’s the best.
Merry Christmas, dear Og.
And may you all have blessed days, whatever your predilection. predilection.
Jenny
We’ve never rewrapped stuff we own, but Christmas for my wife and I are usually very funtional…socks, underwear, pressure canner, vacuum..that kind of stuff. It is NICE to be able to spoil them(my wife and kids) every once in a while though.
For many years, I worked a job with a lot of OT, so I had more time than money for my family, and one of my lessons from that period is that the one does not make up for the other, not matter how fancy of gifts you buy.
I hope you can hold out until Tuesday. My wife has bought me something she REALLY hopes I like, and she keeps wanting to give it to me now.
We had about an inch down here.
My new 20ga 870 Express was my birthday/Chanukah present. The wife — whose birthday is Monday — will go shopping next week for her presents with MY credit card. I expect to suffer greatly for buying a new gun :)
May you have the merriest of Christmases, my friend.
Got a meat loaf pan for my wife this year. She should have more, but that is what she wanted.
Merry Christmas to you all.
Paul, at some point it’s wonderful just to know you got another year together, innit?
There was a Christmas a few years ago–2004, I think it was–where it was just me, Mom, and Dad sitting down to Christmas dinner…and I realized this is all I need. Mom and Dad gave me a card with a check inside, and while that was very nice it wasn’t the focus of my day.
That was the day I realized, “Son, you’re a grown-up now.”
God bless us, every one.
The weather weenies starting yelling “WINTER STORM FOR CHRISTMAS!!!” about three days ago; now it’s “It will probably snow, but the models vary a lot so we’re not even guessing at amounts now.”
