Grey day.
Went out to pick up the new Walther today. Ordered one with the threaded barrel and now am contemplating eventually purchasing a can for it. Anyone has suggestions, I am all ears.
Should probably not have left the house today, but cabin fever was getting the better of me. And, of course, new gun. Which has a two digit serial number. We’ll see how it stacks up.
The cold and greyness of the day was rugged. Hard to remember there is green under all that, waiting to grow, but it is there. I will be happy to see it. We have February to go and then hopefully things will improve. I need to shoot more this year. I need to pare down the collection this year as well.

I’d recommend looking at AAC. Good quality suppressors.

I have one of these. Very happy with it. Some folks at work have Surefire suppressors on their AR’s, they are pleased with them as well.
I have thought about selling some of mine so I can buy more of ones I want. But the after market prices are just pathetic. No one will pay me enough for my used guns to make it worth parting with them. So, I keep them.
I even have a shotgun I have never fired (gift from parents). I need to do something about that.
I have a yankee hill suppresser in .223 (which I could use on a 22). When you come right down to it, suppressor tech just isn’t that complicated. There is no reason to recommend one over another.
I know you are smart enough to buy one that comes apart for cleaning and also anti-seize on the threads when reassembling goes without saying. Wasted bandwidth right there….
Does the muffler on your car come apart for cleaning?
Some things don’t need as much cleaning as you think.
I just had a ludicrous idea.
Someone should make real suppressors the size and shape of a soup can.
And skins for them so they can look like Campbell’s Chicken Soup.
Contra Professor Hale, the muffler on my car isn’t a uniquely serialized part that I have to buy a federal tax stamp for every time I buy one. The dirtier a suppressor gets, the less performance it (and the gun it’s attached to) is capable of.
If you’re going to get a can, Og, get an NFA trust first. Then get the suppressor that least interferes with your gun’s sights and is easiest to clean and maintain. Then buy (and more likely, have custom built) a holster that accommodates the two assembled together. :)
Never looked at suppressed weapons myself. What all is involved as far as paperwork?
Paperwork:
1. Salesman fills our and files form with the BATFEIEIO.
2. you pay $200 up front. plus pay for the device up front and the store hangs onto it until the stamp comes back approved.
3. Wait. Without your money, and without your supressor.
4. After 6 months, continue waiting.
5-10. Wait some more.
11. Store calls you that your stamp is in so you can pick it and your new toy up
Of note, I have a trust for mine, but I have read recently that the Obama administration considers that a “loophole” that needs to be closed with DoJ and BATFE rules changes (not congressional action). So, depending on how they write the rules, everyone with a trust may be forced to pay another $200/device to transfer them to private ownership. Something to watch.
But it is nice to be one of the cool kids at the range who has one.
mine tends to heat up very quickly. I suspect a larger one would have better heat transfer.
The main difference between trust ownership and private ownership is that your local shariff does not get to approve or deny your application if a trust owns it. otherwise, it is an extra step and more waiting while local shariff does his investigation and slow roll.
That is assuming you live in a state that even lets you own these.
Build one.
…Go directly to jail.
Can make one of you’ve done the Form 1. Same tax stamp, I think, and you have to have permission before you start.
Form 1 efile a trust the stamp is approved under 2 months now. I own a Gemtech multi mount I like it. No matter what you get make sure it is user serviceable not sealed. Also look at the Liberty Mystic X multi cal suppressor.
