Operation Blazing Sword
is a group started by Erin Palette to get LGBT people interested and educated in firearms use for self defense. I don’t know Erin personally except through Facebook, but I know the idea is good.
I have tried to get my NRA instructors certification before, but have not been able to get to the classes. I am not an NRA certified instructor. But if you’d like some instruction about safe gun handling, storage, use, trigger discipline, I’ll be happy to help in any way I can. I can put a wide variety of firearms in your hands and teach you how to safely shoot each one. Having no handgun marksmanship skills, I will not attempt to teach them to you. I can almost hit a refrigerator box from the inside, so get your marksmanship skills elsewhere.
I will have to say this.
I will not be teaching Lesbian/Bisexual/Gay/transgender people. I will not be teaching any of those groups.
I will only teach people. That’s right, you have to be a person to learn from me. I am not interested, at all, in what you do with your wobbly dangly bits, whose wobbly dangly bits you rub them up against, and how many of you there are. The range is not an appropriate place for that when shooting is occurring.
That is all.
I hope I can do that. Just see a person in front of me and not a confusing whirl of categories, demographics, and biases.
I think I can.
At least until someone cuts me off in traffic.
It helps when you assume everyone is an idiot.

P.S. Having been at the KdT fest with you at Ferris, TX about a decade ago, I’d say you’re no slouch in the accuracy department.

Well said, as always.
I have NRA certifications in Rifle, Shotgun and Pistol. I need to redo pistol and will this fall getting an RSO certification as well.
None of those classes teach anything beyond basic safe gun handling and some rudimentary marksmanship.
I would have a hard time teaching a swisher but I probably would as I am a firm 2nd amendment supporter and everyone should have the best tool they can get to defend themselves.
Not that it is a popular sentiment any more.
I also teach firearms safety. I reject NRA certification as being unnecessary. It is possible to learn and teach without some national HQ controlling who is allowed. That said, I don’t mind anyone else deciding that is how they want to do it. I am all for liberty, even the liberty of other people to willingly submit.
The level of educational ignorance in this country on every subject is staggering. Any person who identified themselves as a member of a group, when that group has at some point in the past be persecuted, is hopelessly stupid if they don’t think it can happen to them and take some simple steps to guard against it.
Gun control laws in this country were created to disarm blacks. Yet black politicians and their white lackeys are 100% in favor of more gun control.
Japan’s gun control goes back to feudal society where only Samurai were allowed to have weapons under penalty of death. Can’t have the peasants get any ideas about keeping the fruits of their labors for themselves.
Jews were persecuted all over Europe for the past 400 years. but there in only one significant group of Jews who practice being armed: Israelis. All the rest in Europe and the USA are lock step in the dis-arm crowd.
And the largest group of all. Guys who are shorter than average (50% of us), weaker than average (50% of us), have been the targets of men who were bigger and stronger since we were in kindergarden. How often are you going to let someone take your lunch money? In the adult world, there is no possibility that I can stand up for myself against a larger stronger opponent without firearms to level the playing field. Weren’t liberals ever children? Did they learn nothing?
Yo, Hale: I’m a Jew. I’m armed.
I know a lot of Jews in this country who are armed, and who aren’t in lock-step with the disarm crowd.
Don’t tar us all with the same brush. Kthxbai.
I have NRA certifications due to BSA mostly as that is now a requirement for any firearms merit badge counselors. It is mainly so that they have a level base to start from.
As to the 2nd amendment, and the being beat on in school, I was beat seven ways from Sunday as a child from kindergarten all the way up till as a junior I final decked one of my assailants. after that I was left alone.
I don’t have much problem anymore as most of the guys bigger than me now are not interested in setting some kind of example.
I am nearing a black belt in TKD less for the fighting and more for the conditioning.
I think we have 6 months left before things really go to crap.
after that I think most of these arguments will be moot.
That is my 2 cents, or more likely a dime.
NRA instructor here, I’m teaching PEOPLE. Period. Your orientation is your business, not mine.
