Bike progress
Here’s the before
and the after
I know it doesn’t look like much has changed, but the crankcase covers have been removed and polished, the wiring corrected/repaired, the side covers repainted and re-pinstriped, etc. Still have a few issues to resolve, but it’s much closer to road ready than it has ever been.

I am so glad you said, “I know it doesn’t look like much has changed” because at first I was thinking that I am such a *girl* I couldn’t see any difference…
Looks nice though – and the weather is perfect today for a ride! (At least it is up here…)
What size is it and what year? About a 400 cc or so?
Looks very early eighties.
450. 1981.
Uh, I noticed the change right away.
Especially in the length of the grass
Og, nice bike. I helped a former co-worker rebuild his 450 about nine years ago. We snuck a few parts into the electroplating and machine shops where I worked then to pay for college, and redipped ’em in the chrome vats.
Also, wanted to thank you for checking out my blog, http://www.burnettiquette.blogspot.com, yesterday and commenting on it. It was nice of Steve at Hogonice.com to mention my site. When you do a blog under the auspices of a major media org. you never know if people will read it or be suspicious of you for working for “the man.” Fortunately, my editors at the Miami Herald have given me total leeway to speak my mind, and I’m finding that promoting good sense and good behavior and panning bad manners and lack of sense resonate with readers. So again, thanks for tuning in and weighing in. And spread the word. Maybe we can start a movement and put pressure to change on the boneheads among us.
What were they thinking with the faux anodised clutch cover?
Eww.
Dirk: It was the original varnish- the engine had been hot enough to discolor it.
Wow! They have driveways in Indiana! And I thought they were all heathens. heheh
Get yer motor runnin’.
Head out on the highway.
Born to be og. Gotta love it.
Looks good. Now get yer license and ride, baby, ride…
Looking good, Og! Wish any of my bikes looked that nice.
Looks like a fun new toy.
It got so hot it discolored the cases? DAMN! thats pretty hot. I’ve had 10 or so little jap bikes and never had one brown the cases like that. I thought it was painted when I first saw the pic. Love those star wheels lol they bring back some memories. Any idea what caused the heat problem??
I’m thinking it was sitting stopped running. It melted a lot of plastic crap in the crankcase, like the gear indicator, the signal generator, and the wires for the alternator. All fixed now, and I’m gonna be careful not to let it happen again.
Oooh, shiny!
Right now, I’m waiting for front disc pads and rear shoes to come in, so I’ll once more be able to stop.
