\nIn the Shelby County Tribune
\nWhen this classified advertisement caught my eye
\nIt said take immediate delivery
\nOn this ’57 Chevrolet
\nHalf ton pickup truck
\nWe’ll sell or swap for a hide-a-bed an’ thirty five bucks
\nCall one four O, ring two and ask for Bob <\/p>\n
Well I called Bob up on the telephone
\nHe says “Hello this is Bob Speakin'”
\nI says is this here the Bob got the pickup truck for sale
\nHe says “Yeah” I says where are ya
\nHe says “fourteen east on county twelve
\nTurn right on the one lane gravel road,
\nYou can park in the yard, beware of the dog
\nWipe yer feet off, knock three times’n bring yer billfold <\/p>\n
Well I tooled on east on county twelve
\nTurned right on the one lane gravel road
\nAnd I parked in the yard and a German Sheppard come out’n grabbed onto my leg
\nThen I knocked three times’n wiped my feet
\nThe dog let go an’ the screen door opened
\nAnd Bob come out’n says “whadaya want”
\nI says I come to see yer truck
\nHe says “follow me…come on Frank”…Dogs name is Frank <\/p>\n
Well we all went passed the chicken house
\nThrough the hog pen and down to the tractor shed
\nAnd then wound up in back of the barn in afield of cow pies
\nAnd settin’ right there in a pool of grease was a half ton Chevy pickup truck
\nWith a nineteen sixty license plate
\nA bumper sticker that says vote for Dick
\nAnd a Brillo box full of rusty parts
\nAnd Bob says “Whadaya think?” <\/p>\n
Well I kicked the tire and then got in the seat
\nAnd set on a petrified apple core
\nAnd found a bunch of field mice livin’ in the glove compartment
\nHe says “her shaft is bent and the rear end leaks
\nYou can fix ‘er quick with an oily rag
\nUse a nail to start her, I lost the key
\nDon’t pay no mind to that whirin’ sound
\nShe’ll use a little oil, but outside of that she’s a cherry <\/p>\n
I says what’ll it take
\nHe says “whadaya got”
\nI says twenty eight dollars and fifteen cents
\nHe says “you got a deal, sign here
\nI’ll go get the title an’ a can full of gas
\nI put the nail in the slot and fired her up
\nAnd she coughed and belched up a bunch of smoke
\nAnd I backed her right through the hog pen into the yard <\/p>\n
Well Frank jumped in and bit my leg
\nAnd I beat him off with a crowbar
\nHe jumped on out an’ the door fell off
\nAnd the left front tire went flat
\nI jacked it up and patched the tube
\nAnd Frank tore a piece of my shirt off
\nThen Bob come out an’ called him off
\nSays “you better get on outta here <\/p>\n
I went left on the one lane gravel road
\nWent fourteen west on county twelve
\nTook two full quarts of forty weight oil just to get her to the Conoco station
\nAnd I pulled up to the regular pump
\nAnd then Harold Sykes an’ his kid come out
\nSaid “I’ve seen better stuff in a junkyard
\nAnd where’d you ever get that truck
\nI said that’s a long story Harold <\/p>\n
