Where once if you wanted an inexpensive efficient PLC you went directly to AB, did not pass go, did not collect $200, you can now go online to any of a dozen manufacturers and get a little “brick” plc for under $100.<\/p>\n
For people who have not worked in the industry; there is no real way to describe how ubiquitous was the Big AB. A stroll through any major manufacturer in 1980 would have resulted in every single machine you saw, completely controlled by Allen Bradley products. AB maqde every pushbutton, every contactor, every relay, every CNC control. The first hobbing machines were AB. The first truly modular CNC control. The first and best drives. Nobody did it better, and their skunk works was the place where innovation was born, in electronics (At least, after Westinghouse disappeared). They were the Maytag of industrial automation- well known for their quality, reliability, and durability- though NO maytag washer ever was as reliable as an AB control. <\/p>\n
Now AB is governed by accountants and affirmative action “Engineers”.
