Not once
or twice, but three times, I have had this conversation in the last week:
All the engineers of the world, working from the beginning of time to the present day, tremble in fear before the skills of one motivated moron. -og

It’s not even about motivation, it’s about that dark native genius . . . like the Eternal Postman, neither rain nor sleet nor dark of night stays these morons from the swift completion of their appointed chance to screw something up.
It’s just a gift, I guess.

You can’t idiot-proof everything, because someone always comes up with a bigger and better idiot…
Amen.
Yep. I see proof of this daily.
That’s a bloody good quote!
I, as an automation engineer by trade and a technologist by practice, can and have, built fool proof systems.
I just can’t quite create Damn-Fool proof constructs. I live in terror of operators and technicians.
Fodder, we are brothers under the skin.
I never understood this until I built a reservoir site with a beautifully simple and elegant control system that allowed two reservoirs to operate at full capacity in synchronization, despite their being at different elevations.
No sooner did I turn the site over to the operators than it was disconnected, and the site operated at only half-capacity.
They understood the system, or so they said. But it was “different”…and like a skittish horse they reared and bolted.
