Knife meme
had legs, dang. I’m surprised how many people chimed in- and are still chiming in.
I was not surprised by the number of what I call “Modern” knives, there are plenty out there and they’re fine. I was surprised not to see more “Tactikewl” stuff, looks like very few of my readers are mall-ninja types.
I was a little disapointed not to see even a few more “Traditional” knives. Nathan had a stockman he was thinking about carrying, most everyone else had modern stuff. Looks like I really have become an anachronism.

I am in fact carrying it now :)
Well, at least I have a fellow anachronism.
For what it’s worth, I carry a modern one-handed pocket-clipped lockback because I live in Jersey. If I was living somewhere that didn’t restrict me to bronze-age defensive technology, I’d carry my stag-handled stockman every day.
I carry a Swiss Champ and an Original Leatherman.
I don’t see any need to carry a non-multifunction knife, what with those two in my purse*.
For around the house use, I’m a mixture of modern and traditional, having both a few Opinels, and a go-to Ken Onion Leek with the assisted-opening feature.
(Living in Oregon I can own an automatic knife with no hassles, but they’re all insanely expensive if they’re not flea-market crap, and most of them look like SF movie props…)
(* Yeah, I could call it a “tactical messenger bag” (as it is, in fact, black nylon), but it’s a personal effects bag with a shoulder strap.
That makes it a purse.
I’m man enough to admit that, and familiar enough with history to know that there’s nothing odd about it.)
For 20 plus years, I have been carrying the same Gerber Silver Knight with a 2.5″ blade and in the past ten years I have also carried a Leatherman Micra.
These are not what I carry when working. Work carry was usually a multitool. For the past 5 years it was a Gerber Diesel multitool.
That little Silver Knight as field-dressed roughly 30 whitetails.
Here’s my Buck Cadet.

Nice meme…
It’s either a Schrade Old Timer 89OT (the original made in by God America with the high carbon steel blades) or it’s wrong.
That old school enough for ya?
Picture?

Best serrated blade I’ve ever used. The gently radiused points don’t grab material. It’ll cut rope, garden hose, tree limbs sticking into your back while sitting on a deer stand, etc… like you wouldn’t believe.
Like most everyone here we all have a bunch of knives.
The post asked what was in our pockets now.
The Spyderco clips inside my Levis at the small of my back so that I may reach it with either hand.
It is not for whittling.
I carry a Gerber lock blade as I have cut my ringers to many times with a knife that doesn’t lock. Not much of a knife but it is sharp and small. I also keep a Leatherman on the left hip. Not sure as to model as I have several and switch according to mood.
I used to carry a stockman when I was a kid.
don’t have a web site and feel a little like an intruder, yet, I do love my knives and this is my every day. Got this from my crew 15 years ago and treaure it. I’ll try to post a picture.

Sorry, I didn’t post on this. I too love my Uncle Henry’s and there is almost always one in my pants pocket. Got an idea from a friend and had a knife made by Knipshield out of Minnesota. Cost a lot, but it is nice and it is on a scabbard on my right hip, turned slightly forward and loose enough I can move it for convenience. I got a round knife for leather work from him and it is the cats ass! It’s why I spent 150 on the other one. Both are excellent. The one on the hip[ is handy to get to and i forget I have it and have walked into quite a few stores with it on, when I run to town without changing out of my work clothes.I have concealed carry so maybe it’s okay. So far, no one has questioned me about it.
At a branding this spring, a young feller foolishly roped me, just screwing around. He told my son he was amazed at how fast I could get that knife out to cut his rope! ;-)
If you’d like more info or a picture on the Knipshield kinves, drop me a line. Or just do a search.
Lately I’ve been carrying an antler handled, non-folding 2″ handmade knife ground from an old file (my patchknife).
Talk about oldschool :)
Was carrying a Gerber paratrooper clip on lock blade that seems to have walked away.
Oh yeah, on the way back from Oklahoma this week we stopped at the Case factory outlet on I44.
Anyone who pays $140 for a jack knife is out of their goddamn minds.
Well, I showed my knife… how about showing me your ammo?

Dann in Ohio
I carry a Victorinox one-hand trekker for my multi-tool… and a yellow handled Case trapper made with Chrome Vanadium steel.
Find more there:…
