Because Santorum is a dork with zero charisma. And because he steps in his own shit even when he knows the media will make hay with it. Because he has shown zero ability to win a national election with ill-advised remarks. Shall I go on?
Santorum or Romney, the GOP loses big this time around. Never mind Paul or Gingritch, neither one of them had a chance to begin with.

Santorum is too damn good for his own good. He’s not a polished Slick Willie like ole Clinton. And I think this was a snap decision to run, not a long term planned out thing – hence his lack of shutting up in the recent past, lack of having a talk show or anything else to make him nationally known before the run, and his total lack of a campaign (I’ve been beating on his campaign door for 6 months to help, and finally got a ping-back in January). I figured he’d do well, then drop halfway through and run for real in 2016. Even I did not expect this wind under his wings this late in the campaign.
As far as his having no charisma, he’s lasted longer than other no charisma people in 2008, or even somewhat likeable lug charismatic Thompson. He won a triple play one night, and is ahead of Paul and I think Mr. Beltway in delegates so far. Plus, while Gingrich has men’s votes, Santorum against all people’s talk of him being a misogynist has been getting the women’s votes. Not too bad for his first rodeo.
Everybody’s darling Paul, how well did he do in his first attempts? Didn’t he even fail to get the LP nomination once in the 90’s?
And as far as principle – would I rather lose while supporting someone who I believe in, or win with someone not much different form the opponent, from whom I could expect no support for my stances? If the answer is B, then what really is the motivation of my passion if I’m willing to not reasonably maneuver or make deals to get some now and more later, but outright sell out? Me, I would rather support the one in whom I believe and if I get my butt handed to me, then I can still look in the mirror when I shave in the morning, integrity intact.
