The PPX is still shooting like a champ. I bought an UpLula for it, since loading double stack mags is a pain, and frankly? I wish I had had it much sooner. Pounding through 100 rounds was painfully fast (I then wished I had brought another 200) and after about the first twenty I actually started to be able to shoot it and hit stuff. I still aspire to suck at it, but it’s less horrible than before.
Helped a friend get settled into a new rifle and scope. He’s got no vision to speak of in his right eye, and through experimentation we have discovered that with high scope rings he can get a decent cheek weld and look through the scope with his left eye. I did ten rounds with it myself, five with the right and five with the left, it turns out I can shoot pretty good left eyed. Certainly, it gives one pause, if you ever lost your eye could you shoot a rifle? Turns out I can.
Beautiful day. Hope to get some shit done, but mostly I hope to get some napping in before the week comes back to wreck me.
I have gotten used to it, and am fond of it. It has some issues that I am correcting. It has some rust which I am dealing with as best I can. Nothing structural, thank G-d, it’s solid where it counts. There’s some surface rust under that I have treated and will coat with some fish oil Rustoleum, and it will see the first hard winter this winter.
One of the things that has annoyed me is some condensation inside one of the headlamps. I have taken the bulb out hoping it would dry, but no joy. It supposedly requires removal of the bumper to replace, but I was determined, and last night I tugged and pulled and removed the bugger, and poured out a half a cup of water. I soaked up the little drops with a towel on the end of a stick, and dried it out with a hair dryer, then used one of those headlamp cleaning kits to clear it up. It’s a good deal nicer now, and I think it will be fine. So long as the tranny doesn’t go tits up, I will be alright, I think.
Fall has indeed fell. I look forward to winter, this year, a blanket to cover the past and let it sleep, with a new and better spring ahead. The efforts of humans have been toward the awful for so long, all I can do is hope that we weather the storm until the Creator decides to call in his markers. How empty life must be to the faithless.
