You’d be amazed at the shit they give out at big money trade shows. And the coolest shit is, often enough, given out by small companies. Can cozies. Tape measures. Screwdriver sets. USB drives. Four ounce cans of Tap Magic. Stress toys including a fleet of airplanes (These are from Indocharter) foam nuts/bolts, hard hats, sheep, diamonds, etc.

And pens, and pencils, and there would be a huge mound of candy if we hadn’t just grazed our way through the show.

Some of this will go off in a care package to the Oglet at school, a lot of the pens will go with the wife as her customers steal hers all the time. The TapMagic, of course, is mine.

I haven’t had the time to shoot in any matches, because I have worked bloody nearly every weekend.

So a couple weeks ago when I shot the Africa match, it was a great pleasure and a lot of fun. I scored a 35, and the first place guy took it home with a 15.

I should have done better.

When the results were published I found that I DID actually do better, but I had two misfires on the Hornady Leverevolution I was using. This is the regulated round for the 45-70 barrels, and I have shot several boxes with zero trouble- but not this time. The two misfires cost me 14 and 15 seconds respectively, and my instinct was not to eject an unfired perhaps hangfiring case over my shoulder at bystanders so I turned the barrels up and ejected the bad rounds at my feet. Doing that after a count of five (to try to minimize the possibility of hangfire) and reloading cost some time.

I have sent an email to Hornady. The 29 seconds this cost me (My shooting was pretty damned good) would have taken my score to a 6, winning me the match.

Wasn’t like there was a cash prize or anything, but damn. You hate to have an equipment failure like that.

Of IMTS. I didn’t end up working it, which is a bit of a treat, but I had a wad of other nasty crap going on in the interim.

From brutal heat to wool socks in a couple of days. This must be that climate change everyone is yapping about.

We will probably have something of an indian summer, but if it stayed like this for a month or so that would be fine by me as well.
