About damned time

Yesterday, I did a thing I should have done a long, long time ago.

I took the wife to the range.

I’ve taken the daughter before, and we took her along this time, but the wife has been in this country for eleven years and never held a gun in her hand.

Yesterday, we rectified that.

The daughter, of course, was shooting the little Stevens Favorite, on loan from my best friend and partner, Mike. She did OK, even scoring a bullseye! (actually shot out the X ring)

I was proud of her, as always, but proud of Mama too- she shot my Speedmaster, my scoped Cugir, the MKII, and my Colt 380 ACP.

She had fun.

She wants to do it again.

We damned sure will.

I don’t deceive myself that I am any political pundit. I have views based on fairly simple morals and ideals, and I share them with what limited capability I have. Mostly, I’m the guy who fixes your car, or re-roofs your house, or pours your driveway.

You could drag a net down a suburban street and on most days, collect hundreds like me. I have a good skillset, I can tackle most any kind of labor, and I have a strong back.

I am, in short, America.

Horsefeathers prints an interesting letter from a reader, who, with eloquence I envy, demonstrates how I feel, how millions of Americans feel.

Go and read.

If you’re an American, you read that, and said to yourself, I will stand with my shoulder against this man’s shoulder, and all that we love will be behind us, and all that we hate ahead of us. And we will win.

If you don’t feel that way, GET OUT OF MY COUNTRY.

Hat tip, naturally, Francis Poretto.

Hope y’all are shooting.

I’m gonna be hitting the range tomorrow. I think I’m going to use my Ruger MKII.

Let’s see how steady my hands are these days.

The next match, by the way, will test how good your guns are- we’re gonna shoot 100 yards, scope, sandbags or rest, any caliber over .300
