All grown up now
FOr the firest time in who knows HOW many years, the state of Indiana is allowing the use of high powered rifles (well, actually, pistol caliber rifles) to hunt deer. Today is opening day. The Marlin is in the truck. I will be walking afield with an actual rifle- and not a shotgun or muzzleloader- for the first time in my life. Hope some dumbass doesn’t mistake me for a deer.

Best of luck!
1 shot 1 kill. Venison it’s what’s for supper.
I hunted with an ’03-A3 for years, but my favorite hunting gun was a Super Blackhawk in 44 mag.
My favorite is the Marlin lever action, no question.
Good luck to you Og.
We were at Winamac this morning and bagged a few birds.
When I left the property there were at least a eight vehicles waiting to check in their deer at the DNR shack at 10:30am. We also saw one doe being checked in before our hunt and another in our area 3 parking lot being loaded into a pickup which was a nice 6 point. That’s at least ten dead deer in one morning that we saw and another one I almost hit on the way in.
You may want to look into Winamac. I’ve been going there for about ten years for put-and-take. It’s not too far from Kingsbury (never been there) and I have never run into asshats like I have at Willow Slough and Tri-County . The results I saw today at Winamac made me want take up hunting deer again. Next year for sure!
My guess is that Indiana’s excuse is that things are too tightly situated for a real high-powdered rifle to be safe.
Of course the times I crossed the state it seemed to me there was plenty of open space, but what do I know compared to the minions of the state?
Of course here in Nevada where I reside one can use a .30/378 if one wishes.
I’m out here rooting for you.
Gerry, I like Winamac- but it’s a 2 hour drive from home. Hell, Kingsbury is a solid hour. I can’t do that every day. And it sucks the life out of my weekends, which are already chock full of nuts.
