Bluing
Got my tank a couple weeks ago but haven’t had a chance to use it. So tonight I managed to get all the pieces together and fire it up- but it’s not coming to temp. So I’ve surrounded it with bricks to try to keep the heat in (it’s a windy day, Piglet) Wish me luck.
More:
I love a late season rain. I mean, it’s so nice to hear the rain outside, falling on the leaves.
EXCEPT WHEN MY BLUING TANK IS HEATING ON THE PORCH.
Still more:
Marlin is done. Soaked it in boiling water until the salts cooled, and then oiled and assembled. Might could have set it to soak in oil overnight, but it looks OK.

Luck.
What’s a bluing tank?
Bluing places a strong, yet very attractive (bluish) finish on steel. Og is refinishing the exterior of an old Marlin rifle.
Back when I was working for my Ex-father in law, we specialized in a cold blue method if you are interested in it drop me an e-mail and I’ll write it out in detail, it does require a powder coat oven though if you want to do long guns with it, otherwise a regular oven for handguns and barrels.
More pictures of the gun! Drooling on keyboard here.
Nice job Og!
Nuthin’ beats a good hot blue for a wood ‘n steel firearm.
Congrats…
[…] All grown up now FOr the firest time in who knows HOW many years, the state of Indiana is allowing the use of high powered rifles (well, actually, pistol caliber rifles) to hunt deer. Today is opening day. The Marlin is in the truck. I will be walking afield with an actual rifle- and not a shotgun or muzzleloader- for the first time in my life. Hope some dumbass doesn’t mistake me for a deer. […]
