Gun control=Sexism

From Today’s Sun-Times:
“As she sat facing the intruder in her office on the 21st floor of the Daley Center — and with no one else to hear her cries for help — she begged him not to rape her.”

The victim, a then-59 year old coordinator for Cook County’s chief judge, begged and pleaded with the assailant before he bent her over her own desk in her own office, removed her clothing, and forcibly inserted his cock into her vagina. I’m not going to use any euphemisims like “rape”. That dilutes the nature of the act, we hear “rape” over and over again. It’s too pretty a word to descrive such a brutal act. Here’s the naked lunch: This middle aged housewife and mother of two was forced by an assailant to accept his unwelcome cock in her vagina. Warning, the rest of this post is even more graphic and potentially disturbing.

Joblessness

Repatriate has a damned interesting piece about joblessness. If you’ve ever feared joblessness, by all means, go there and read.

As long as I have a brain in my head and reasonable health, I will not be jobless. Last year, when my company wasn’t doing so well, everyone took a day off a week without pay. While some could absorb this, others could not. Count me among the latter. I didnt blame George Bush, nor my boss, (frankly, the plan was a brilliant one, keep your employees on staff and spend less, I can’t imagine why they didn’t do it sooner) nor anyone else.

I got a part time gig.

I supplimented my income by doing work one or two days a week for an old friend who, as it happened, could use my skills. He helped me out during that time, and the work I was doing was a great help to him. I made enough extra cash to pay the bills. And I moved on.

Now our business is as strong as ever, and we’re all back to full time, and very happy to say business is beginning to boom. Fact is, though we’re a small company, we’ll have to staff up to deal with the workload. Jobless recovery my ass.

Schools

It seems that the Nashville Tn. public schools have a problem with underacheiving students and their embarrasment at being less than spectacular performers (Link thanks to Misha thanks to Graumagus)

A few bloggers have mentioned this, and ranted about it, but from what I’ve seen, may have missed what I think is the salient information in this story.

I don’t believe the problem lies with the embarrasment of underacheivers at all. There are plenty of ways to avoid casting aspersions on those who are “average” or below, and frankly, some of the “poor” students are more a result of the incompetence of the educational system than their own merits, or lack therof. If you want a lecture (and a damned good one) on the subject, go visit Mrs Du Toit and email her, she can and will explain it to you.

Frankly, I believe the issue is deeper and a great deal more sinister.
