Repatriate has a damned interesting piece about joblessness. If you’ve ever feared joblessness, by all means, go there and read.
As long as I have a brain in my head and reasonable health, I will not be jobless. Last year, when my company wasn’t doing so well, everyone took a day off a week without pay. While some could absorb this, others could not. Count me among the latter. I didnt blame George Bush, nor my boss, (frankly, the plan was a brilliant one, keep your employees on staff and spend less, I can’t imagine why they didn’t do it sooner) nor anyone else.
I got a part time gig.
I supplimented my income by doing work one or two days a week for an old friend who, as it happened, could use my skills. He helped me out during that time, and the work I was doing was a great help to him. I made enough extra cash to pay the bills. And I moved on.
Now our business is as strong as ever, and we’re all back to full time, and very happy to say business is beginning to boom. Fact is, though we’re a small company, we’ll have to staff up to deal with the workload. Jobless recovery my ass.
