Spent sunday at a friend’s farm, driving through areas that challenged four-wheel-drive. Saw herds of deer; flocks of turkeys. Thought about thoreau, wondered how long it would take someone to find me if I just disapeared out there.

Anyone ever see “alone in the wilderness”? Story of one Dick Proenneke, a guy who packs up his shit and moves to Alaska, builds a log cabin, films parts of it, writes a book about it, proceeds to live there for thirty years.

I’m ever more convinced that they have the better idea. If I live long enough to retire, or should I win the lottery, that’s what I’ll do- drop every piece of personal technology newer than 1949, and go off somewhere I can live in some relative peace from cellphones, computers, etc.

No, I’m not a luddite, but that shit seems to do a good job of preventing you from living a real life.
