Cross culturalism

I’m watching “Cyrano de bergerac”. Actually, I’m watching the story, but it’s not that movie, it’s “Aru kengo no shogai”, the japanese film which follows the Cyrano story quite tightly.

Toshiro Mifune stars in the lead role as “Heihachiro Komaki” He’s brilliant as usual, and unquestionably does the role as well or better than anyone else, including that hideous frog Depardieu (who was born to be Cyrano) If you ever have a chance to watch this, you should. The insult scene alone is worth renting it.

it’s kind of a shame that NOBODY gets the girl, at least not in the traditional western sense, but Mifune is at his best, his most lyrical self. It’s not a wonder that I enjoy Japanese cinema so much.

Eating about a two pound beefsteak right now- slices big enough to cover a whole slice of bread. Guy Clark wasn’t just flapping his jaws, he knew wherof he spake.

Some celery salt please. Hold the preservatives. Bacon? color me delicious.

I’m leaving, on a jet plane.

Well, not too soon. One of the techs I have been working with is, though, tomorrow.I wish him well. I hope to hell his ride gets him there early enough.

As for business travel? I have done MORE than my share. It sucks. TSA bites. As Steve H says, without Islam, we’d all be able to get on a plane in five minutes.

At the same time, having to jump through extra hoops to get on a plane is no big deal for someone used to travelling. BEFORE 9/11 I was subject to some travel days that would make current security seem like a walk in the park. You do what you have to do.
