homegrown tomatos
Eating about a two pound beefsteak right now- slices big enough to cover a whole slice of bread. Guy Clark wasn’t just flapping his jaws, he knew wherof he spake.
Some celery salt please. Hold the preservatives. Bacon? color me delicious.

Very true.
Hmmm. I’d be jealous if I hadn’t gone over to Mom’s and partaken of home made peach ice-cream and fried chicken. Mass quantities. Aaaah, the staff of life.
I think I’ll pick & eat one tonight when I get home. Last night’s storm knocked one or two over, but there’s ‘maters left. A little mayo, a bunch of bacon, some salt–heaven without having to blow yourself up. Or deal with a bunch of spinsters in burqas.
Oh I do so love me a good tomato sandwich.
Ughhh…now I’m hungry. Damn this small town and all of it’s chicken joints.
Libby, ain’t that right! And no squishy tomatoes from the store, either. Straight from the garden, where they crunch when sliced, put a light coating of Miracle Whip on the slices of bread, pile the tomato slices on, cut it diagonally, have an ice cold glass of milk ready. Ommmmmm…
Mmmmmm.
My recipe is REAL mayo, both sides.
Fresh sliced ‘maters about 1/2″ thick
Layer of minced garlic on the other side (use plenny!)
Salt & pepper
Sliced in half & served w/Harpoon IPA.
Oh, yeah.
Only problem is after a couple, I sweat garlic for the next 18 hours or so (but it keeps the bugs away)!
I only like tomatoes from my garden or a good Bloody Mary. You mentioned celery salt, and immediately thought of a good stiff one. Bloody Mary that is.
I’m thirsty now.
Of course it goes without saying it has to be fat slices of real tomato fresh from the garden. I use real mayo and throw on some salt and pepper. Bacon doesn’t hurt either but you have to cook that first so I usually can’t wait that long. And definitely a beer chaser. I don’t do milk.
mmmm tomatoes. i’ve taken to buying the campari tomatoes they have in the grocery stores now. not homegrown, but the best money can buy.
if y’all haven’t seen them yet, keep an eye peeled.
