Happeh.

yep.

ice scapades

Some thirty five years ago, in a frigid cold winter afternoon, my schoolmates and I skated on the frozen pond at school. THe “fishing pond” was shallow and the ice froze hard, so we did a lot of skating. the pond was large and irregular with lots of small coves shaded by willows.

One of our lowerclassmen, a hefty kid named, I think, Pete, had skated into one such cove, and smack dab into one such willow tree, and fell down, and smacked his head on the ice, and knocked himself out as flat as a mackerel.

So we did what all kids our age would do.

We pulled up his shirt and rolled him over onto his ample stomach.

When he came to, a few minutes later, as a result of having his stomach frozen to the ice, he started screaming (which must have been hellish considering the headache he must have had) and three priests came running over to get him off the ice, which they had to do by… peeing on him.

The indignity is something he never lived down, as long as I can remember.

Didn’t help that we’d pantsed him too.

You know….

A lot of gunbloggers- And I don’t consider myself one of them, there are too many powerhouses out there for me to ever be anything but a pissant- but a lot of gunbloggers talk about taking people shooting, and I have to say, I LOVE doing this. So why not do so as a sort of an informal competition? How many people can you bring into the fold?

I’d say we score like thus:

50 points for an old shooter who is brought back to the sport
100 points for every totally new adult shooter. (or old shooter who has been away more than 7 years)
150 points for every totally new shooter under the age of 18.
50 bonus points for every shooter that comes to the range and within the first six months of their own volition, asks for help picking out a new gun.
100 bonus points for every new shooter that buys more than one firearm in the first year.

The rules would have to be pretty straightforward. The “introducer” would have to teach the new shooter the four rules AWAY from the range, and on a separate day, take him/her to the range and demonstrate four firearms: rimfire rifle, rimfire sidearm, centerfire sidearm, centerfire long gun.

THoughts? Hell, we might be able to find someone who could provide prizes.
