You know….
A lot of gunbloggers- And I don’t consider myself one of them, there are too many powerhouses out there for me to ever be anything but a pissant- but a lot of gunbloggers talk about taking people shooting, and I have to say, I LOVE doing this. So why not do so as a sort of an informal competition? How many people can you bring into the fold?
I’d say we score like thus:
50 points for an old shooter who is brought back to the sport
100 points for every totally new adult shooter. (or old shooter who has been away more than 7 years)
150 points for every totally new shooter under the age of 18.
50 bonus points for every shooter that comes to the range and within the first six months of their own volition, asks for help picking out a new gun.
100 bonus points for every new shooter that buys more than one firearm in the first year.
The rules would have to be pretty straightforward. The “introducer” would have to teach the new shooter the four rules AWAY from the range, and on a separate day, take him/her to the range and demonstrate four firearms: rimfire rifle, rimfire sidearm, centerfire sidearm, centerfire long gun.
THoughts? Hell, we might be able to find someone who could provide prizes.

Sounds good, I love introducing new shooters too. I’m hoping to get my grandfather to try it tomorrow. He hasn’t shot since he joined the Air Force in the 50’s, he always talks about how being in the Air Force during Korea were among the best years of his life. I showed him a S&W I had bought and he mentioned he’d been issued an M1 carbine. I recently got a carbine so tomorrow I’m going to try to get him to come shoot it with me. I got my former girlfriend shooting for the first time in late may.
You’re a man after my own heart! Standardization comes to promoting gunning!
This is how engineers would do it.
No luck on my grandfather. “I haven’t shot a gun since 1953 and I’m not going to start now.”
