No, not just an unopened mail, any mail at all.

I have been creating a new archive directory by month for all my business correspondence since- well, since I had business correspondence. When I get a mail, I read it, react to it if I need to, and put it in the archive folder. I have archives going back a long way.

Used to be when I went on vacation I would have people I trusted do this for me, in case there was something that turned up when I was gone. I loathed coming home to a full inbox, because nothing would do but I had to sit down and empty it.

My personal email is treated a bit differently, I don’t save old correspondence unless it’s something I need for one reason or another. But i still can’t stand to have it full.

This is one of the best uses for my smartphone; I can receive, react, and respond to business correspondence instantly. Over the last two days I have headed off a problem with a machine that might otherwise have taken weeks or months to resolve, because I was able to respond in realtime to people halfway around the world.

yeah, it’s a little obsessive. Worse things have happened.
