Blog hosting
Apparently my traffic has gotten to a point where the hosting company wants me to get my own server. I have no farging idea why I have this kind of traffic all of a sudden, and I damned sure can’t pay $99 a month for my own damned server. Anyone has any suggestions, leave them in comments.

Any chance of hosting it on Go Daddy or Yahoo Business for like $5 a month? Is there anything to this blog to make it more special, hosting-wise, than a standard web page? A lot of those hosting plans can also get you statistics on your traffic, too. I hear WordPress’ blogging platform is supposed to be good.
That’s bullshit, pure and simple.
Under 200 hits a day and they want you to rent a whole fucking server?!?!
I have issues with Hosting Matters (where I’m at until I get off my ass and move to MuNu) but it costs like $11/month for 400+megs of hard drive space and something like 15 gigs of bandwidth/month. When I was getting over 500 hits/day it still didn’t come close to hitting my bandwidth allowance.
And they’re expensive compared to a lot of hosting companies.
Shop around, man. They’re trying to hose you, pure and simple.
I pay $9.95 per month for 15 gigs with wiredhub, and that’s not even their biggest package.
Hey, are you working from home Wed.? Could you be? Got a proposition for you that involves money. Either call me or e-mail me.
Check your traffic logs VERY carefully. I had a situation where — like — 90% of my traffic was coming from two or three IP addresses — belonging to server farms running spiderbots. They’d download your entire site every five minutes or so, driving your bandwidth consumption up into — feature this — the realm where you’d have to pay for a service upgrade.
Do the math.

I pay about $10 a month for my account at Hosting Matters and get 22 or 23 Gigabytes of bandwidth every month and use maybe 2 or 3 percent of that.
Unless you get a couple orders of magnitude more traffic than I do, your hosting company is full of it.
Dedicated servers are for the likes of Glenn Reynolds and Kim Du Toit.

I use Hosting Matters (sounds like we have the same package) and I’m quite happy with them. Unless someone is pulling what Mark suggests, there’s no way you need a dedicated server.

That sounds like a load of crap they’re feeding you.
Use blogsnot, it’s simple and free, plus you can keep your web address.
Thanks, I’m checking into a lot of options.
