   The older I get the more I question this crap about high cap magazines. Tactically speaking, for guys like us, they are useless. Same for the criminals, really. If you flipped out and went to work and had a turkey shoot, would you be slowed down from your grizzily work if you were limited to low cap repeaters like bolt actions or lever guns? I do some of my best shooting with them. What a stupid thing to become all political about!

   I bought the new HK SL8 and up here in Soviet Canukistan I am stuck with 5 round mags. Doesn’t bother me in the least, I have 5 mags. Thing is that my rifle shoots 3/4 MOA. Do I wanna slap in a 30 rounder and blap it off and then rinse and repeat until the ammo runs out? What would that do to the barrel? I don’t think I wanna find out.

   Only thing a high cap mag has going for it is that it looks cool and scares the pooh out of a-holes like Sarah Brady and her pussyboys.

   Personally, the gov’t can ban what it wants and go suck a fart. Wake me up when they try to enforce it. That is when the shooting starts.

   I picked up one fomr cabelas for $15, one from a local shop for 15.

   Tapco, first samco, and sksman all sell decent ones as well.

   Here’s a good reccomendation: don’s buy em. They seem to be factory made with a week spring and 4/5 SKS that I have owned (Norinco/Yugo/Romi/Other Chinese/Russian) have all misfed horrendously. The Norinco with a forged bolt could get through a few of them, but if you replce the wood stock with synthetic it has a tendancy to not sit quite right. Usually they jam after a 2-3 round burst.    I agree with the “no high caps” sentiment. They aren’t as reliable as the originals, plus they’re too long to shoot prone. If there were some twenty rounders out there somewhere, they would have enough clearance for prone shooting and perhaps be more reliable, but I’ve only seen the thirties.

   The Midway link includes a few more reliable mags, but they are 10 rounds (the straight mags at the beggining). My Norinco has a fixed 20 round magazine, but I don’t trust it not to jam, so for plinking, they are fine, but be prepared to do some swearing and jerking of the bolt. Definately not a SHTF gun until they make an AK mag conversion kit for retail.

   Og, I’ve got an old Russian one, & have gone the detachable route. I tried metal & plastic, & they all suck. Additionally, as was mentioned before, you can’t shoot prone worth a damn.
   Best deal for rapid reload is, IMHO, stripper clips. They load remarkably fast, you can use the original equipment attached mag (more reliable & can shoot prone), you can leave strippers loaded indefinately w/out spring fatigue, & all in all with practice you can shoot 3 stock mags as fast as attaching, shooting, & detaching one of those accursed 30 rounders.

   Oh, I have stripper clips. And they work fine. I just want this because it gives agita to the GFW’s.

   Get an AK instead, and stock up on 30/40/50 round magazines.

   If you feel the need to get anything for your SKS, get a whole shitload of stripper clips, load them ALL, and practice loading and firing the SKS as quick as you can.

   It’ll give you lots of practice loading, it’ll help with rapid-fire shooting, and after 100 rounds or so, you’ll be nice and relaxed.

   I’d be willing to wager than 10 stripper clips can be fed & fired into an SKS in about the same time as 3 30 round magazines and 1 10 round magazine in an AK clone, given the right shooter…

    Yeah, I’m good with strippers. And I like the SKS more than any AK I’ve ever seen.

    I had horrible luck with mine, Kept falling out and wouldn’t feed worth a damn.

    I can load from stripper clips really fast now the 10 rounder works fine for me.

    If you just wanna piss off the bedwetters, buy a stack of HK or FAL mags on the cheap.

    Then you’ll have an excuse to get one to go with them, later.
