Es gibt keine Freude wie schadenfreude
My german is dodgy these days, and I’m almost certain the syntax is off, but the sentiment is there.
We’ve enjoyed nearly six years of taking the game to the terrorists. Now the terrorists have made it clear they are about to start bringing the game back to us, since they will no longer be preoccupied by our troops.
My fervent prayers go to the folks who will be hurt by this. On behalf of all decent men, I’m sorry you will have to suffer for the partisanship of a couple of assholes. it will not be with Freude that I will mark the occasion of the first terrorist attack on our soil, now that we will be opening our borders to the terrorists and leaving them alone to plot against us.
Prayers, for now, are all I have to offer. The time will come for more tangible actions, I’m sure, but I must echo Edmund Dantes words of great wisdom: Wait and hope.

Unfortunately it’s inevitable, and every right thinking individual knows it, hates it, and is mourning the fact.
I for one won’t go down without a fight. I’m going to the firing range with friends next weekend, and I’m going to purchase myself a .38 Hopefully I won’t be wiped off the map before I get to shoot a terrorist or two (I know – sounds dramatic).

Schadenfreude roughly translated means “harmful joy”. A sort of drowning in irony. Like when your eighbor steals your chainsaw and then accidentally cuts his leg off with it. Or when democrats pull the troops out of Iraq and then we start getting attacked on our own soil again. The title of the post means “there is no joy like harmful joy” (approximately)
In addition to what you have said quite eloquently here Og, we have the potential of the only real parallel between Iraq and Vietnam. We have often heard how this war is just like Vietnam, which couldn’t be farther from the truth. Defunding this war could force the troops out of Iraq leaving it to be overrun by the bad guys and causing unknown massive amounts of inocents to be killed in the ideological and political purges that follow. How tragic that the anti-war left would finally be proven right when it was of their own doing.
biloxi, it’s the only way they CAN be right, is to make their prophecies come true by brute force.
Actually, Og, (if I remember my AP German, which is a … dubious contention, you should know), I believe “schadenfreude” literally translates as “shuddering joy.” Think (pardon my French) “frisson.” Same idea. You behold someone ELSE’s tragedy and you shudder. Fraulein Herdler explained it as having a touch of “There but for the grace of Gott…” in it.

Mark, as I recall Shudder is Schauer, but again, my german is rusty as ted kennedys morals/car. I thought “shudder joy” was that thing that happens at the end of a pee.
I’ve already ammo’d up. 400+ rounds of .44 Remington Magnum, 200 rounds of .45 ACP, 1200 rounds of .30-06 for the M1, and 300 rounds of .308 Winchester for the M14 (M1A). That should hold me for a while. I’ll use some of it up re-zeroing the weapons at the range though. It’s been a while since I’ve fired some of them.
*sigh* You’re right, it’s coming… I’m curious to see how long it takes now that the Dems are in control.
Unfortunately it means really bad things for a large number of people. So I do hope I’m wrong. Don’t think I am, but I hope so.
