House
yeah, I watched the season opener, even watched the Christmas “catch up” episode- (loved the midget comments) and while I have little interest in addicts, my bulging belly reminds me I have my own addictions.
So it was with some amusement that I saw the treatment of Dr House, and some enjoyment that I saw the vindictive cop Tritter smacked down by the judge.
I mentioned this to my friend Dr Bob over beers thursday night, and he said “I can’t watch that show. No doctor could be that much of an ass and continue to practice”.
I sat, openmouthed, stunned.
My old friend and confidant Mlle Jenny, a medical transcriptionist who deals with doctors every day, said “that’s the funniest thing I ever heard in my life” I can’t but agree. The entire medical profession thinks so much of itself they can’t stand it when someone points the eyepiece of reality at them, and I am reminded of this by M Alger and M Du Toit.
Face it, folks. As a group? doctors are overpaid scum. Their minions are self important boors. One in a hundred is worth the powder it would take to blow themself up with. Demonstrably, the US medical system is one of the lower rated in the world, at least in part because of it’s snake-oil propensities and it’s insurance-fraud subculture.
I don’t trust them, never will, and I doubt I’ll begin soon

They are also the most shat upon of all the professions and wrongfully so IMO. You should have a link to Doc Russia’s blog. I wouldn’t do that job for love or money, people aren’t worth it.
The nurses are the absolute worst these days too. They are always on the rag, and I don’t blame them because our seniors are the most demanding, ignorant SOB’s too.
The ability of the whole profession to overcharge the portion of the public that can pay(private and gov ins.)so they can service the illegals and that portion of the public that refuses to work, should be a crime. Hell, we don’t need Hillary, socialized medicine is already here.
Theres three problems with doctors as I see it
1. The disproportionate portion of overeducated, underskilled arrogant assholes that populate the profession; especially those from south and central asian countries who honestly beleive (because their culture told them to), that everyone who isn’t a doctor is a worthless piece of shit.
2. The completely fucked up system of medical care and linked system of legal reprisals and state sanctioned liability lottery in this country that ensure that even good doctors need to treat their patients as if they were a combination of an angry three year old, and toxic waste
3. The factors above, combined with the huge number of ilegal aliens, and jsut plain assholes who come into doctors lives every day and burn them out to the point where after a few years they really jsut don’g give a damn about you or anyone else anymore, because they know that if they do, they’ll jsut get smashed by the reality of it all until they take their own lives.
If you think I’m exaggerating, you havent been paying attention.
Chris, I don’t disagree. I think there’s a handful of really good doctors in every area, and I think they really try. On the other hand, there’s an ovewhelming amount of the thing you describe, and no recourse whatsoever, because the wolves are in charge of the sheep.
I’m starting to have a real problem with your tv watching habits ;)
hey, Dick, write more and I won’t have a reason to watch TV.

I’ve had both types. I’ve had the ill-educated, can’t be bothered to look up correct information OR send me to a proper specialist type of doctor, and the outstanding type who really do what they do because they want to help people. The
latter is my gyno, who prescribed the treatment for an extremely painful condition my family doctor didn’t even understand. However two of the older colleagues she worked with left within the same year, both because of the extremely high insurance costs necessary for an obstetrician to bear.
Of course we’re left with a lot of self-important idiots, the good ones aren’t so egotistical as to believe they are perfect and KNOW they will eventually get sued for millions. This is especially true of obstetricians, who get sued left and right for birth defects they most likely did not cause or contribute to.
Another factor causing problems: medical associations and ‘us vs. them’ attitude that causes crap doctors to be protected and defended instead of thrown out of the profession.
I once worked at a blood bank, and that’s where my respect for the medical profession started downhill. When you rush to deliver blood or plasma to a lab and walk in to find a doctor practically screaming at the lab tech because things can’t be done a fast as he wants…
Tell me about it. We missed two appointments with my son’s pediatric neurologist (he has Tourette’s syndrome and ADHD.) One was my wife’s fault, the other was mine. Ok, our bad, I admit. No excuse other than our lives are a hectic mess right now, and we are human.
He dropped my son as a patient.
He’s the ONLY pediatric neurologist in the fucking area.
So now we have to find a new doc, probably have to drive sixth plus miles to one, and hope our insurance will cover it.
Fucking bastard.
‘k, so what happened to inviting me out the next time youse two decide to chew the fat and spit it out!?? Hmmmmmmmm!???
I know, I know — guy stuff. Whatever. It’d probably be weird hanging out with the guy who’s in charge of my innards, anyway. Hope you at least told him everything I told you to tell him, though, because I don’t know when I’ll get a chance to.
There are good doctors and bad doctors. There are good mechanics and bad mechanics. There are good nurses and bad nurses. Life is kinda funny that way. You’ve got good people and bad people, and you have to find ways to avoid the bad folks while keeping the good folks in mind.
When I worked in a hospital in Seattle, I had tremendous respect for 80% of the doctors who worked there. The other 20% weren’t worth the time of day. But that 20% doesn’t mean that the rest of the doctors were worthless. They busted their ass, day in and day out, working on some of the worst cases you can ever see.
I’ve got plenty of examples, but I’m not going to eat up your bandwidth telling them. Just trust me, not all doctors are overpaid assholes.
