When it rains…
I got 1/3 of the way to work today, and the truck started overheating. The thermostat turned out to be bad, but I’m also suspicious of the water pump, etc.
In the process of dismantling the damned thing, I have broken off a stud in the block. Now I have to dismantle even FURTHER than I had to before, just to get to the broken stud, chase it out, and put the engine back together.
So I’ll drive the Honda for several days and fight with the bastard, hopefully finishing it before the weekend.
Sometimes I HATE cars so damned much. Anyway, I’ll be greasy for some time to come. Light posting etc. etc.
Update: The broken studs are out. The gasket surfaces have been scraped. The bolts are on order. I should have the whole thing together in a couple of days, but I have a job I need to get to. So I’ll drive the Civic (Honda! The Car that you Wear!) until I can do this right and get it done.

Breaking a stud off in the block is major suckage of the very worst kind.
You have my deepest condolences.
Yeah, replace the waterpump at the same time.
Congratulations on your new employment.
A broken stud is sometimes not that hard to remove. Good luck with that.
From your mouth to god’s ears, Fodder. Yeah, Dick, I’m putting it all back together with anti-seize too, so this won’t happen again. Goddamned dielectric corrosion.
but aren’t you glad you’re no shelling out $1200 for the repairs, or worse?
Sure, but I still have to do the work.
You should have seen the shitstorm of rust when Kelly’s brakes were done a week or so back. The guys had to literally beat her wheels off the hubs with a mallet.
It was pitiful.
Sure, laugh at the Honda if you want.
But what vehicle is running right now?
I’ve had it happen too My condolences.
I did the waterpump on my old beater(94 aerostar)last spring. Same story, broke off bolt, cheap tool for fan clutch broke, turned the alternator and it made that grinding and crunching noise. Three skinned knuckles and four days later it was running. Copier/printer/scanner guys don’t need to work on vans.
Dave, the honda has gone through far more with fewer miles. Alternator, head, head gasket, etc. The Ford has run longer for more miles with less maintenance.
Really? When I had my Honda, that thing ran for miles and miles with just basic service. I think it finally died at 270,000 miles.
Meh. Vehicles. They’re funny like that.
