Auto repair for the obstinate
Standing in the shower this morning, I realized I have bruises in places I never expected. Like my armpits. The insode of the elbows. Back of my neck. The base of my sternum. The fronts of my thighs.
Anyone who has ever done extensive engine work on a truck understands these injuries, and what causes them.
I’m gonna be happy when this is done, lord knows.

Had a bruise show up on my jaw after working on my ’71 Chevy once.
Still can’t figure that one out.
I feel your pain. I had bruises on the underside of my forearms and a nasty cut on my forehead after overhauling the engine on my – don’t laugh – ’72 VW Super Beetle. To be fair, I was just 18 when I did that job. So my auto repair knowledge was pretty limited…and then I wrecked the car about three months later.
Yep, sounds like the injury pattern I had when I R&R’d the intake manifold on my Ram 1500. Damned thing’s leaking again after a year — combination of piss-poor design and my inexperience in repairing same — so I’ll be feeling the pains again here soon.
Don’t forget – in order to have a successful repair, blood must be sacrificed to the Mechanic God.
