Please, God, let there be a real restaurant in Ames iowa.
I have been here two days anlast night had to eat at applebees, futhuchrissakes. Anyone know of a decent eatery in the area? Someplace I can get a big slab of liver, or a real steak cooked properly? a salad not polluted with croutons?
Applebees disgusts me foodwise. I did have a run in with their corporate VP of relations a few years back regarding Concealed carry in their establishments.
I fowarded his smarmy email to a few friends and lets just say he got the Zumbo treatment.
After about 5000 angry Emails from gun owners, they took down the no guns signs but their food has become even worse.
There is a place called Hickory house or something. On the main drag a little north of 30 on 69.
Supposed to be good steaks there.
Hickory house is a BQ place. Looks like OK food, but not a steak on the menu. And nothing that doesn’t have a lot of carbs.
There has to be one in Ames somewhere. We’ve got several in Ankeny, About 30 minutes south. Chilis is about the best one in Ankeny. If you want to trek down to Des Moines they have a place on Euclid just off 14th called Iowa Beef steak house. You can pick your own steak and cook it if you like.
