Zumbotron
A lot has been made of the Zumboner.
Zumbo is a fine sportsman. Unquestionably.
He stuck his foot in his mouth.
Who hasn’t done that? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?
He has come over to the light. He has paid the consequences for his actions. Welcome home the prodigal son. Forgive- and remember.

Sometimes writers will take controversial stances to increase readership by provoking people. It is the oldest trick in the book…and the most effective. I think that is what Zumbo did and it blew up in his face. And dammit, he deserved what he got. We can’t afford this. He made his mistake, I am content to let him try to repent and fix what he has done.
I will tell you something else too, Og. I have owned black rifles and sporting rifles and love them both. But when I hear some bloated urban arsehole calling me a ‘Fudd’, I see red.
The gun grabbers see this incident as ‘the gun culture’ eating their own. They don’t make distinctions between ‘Fudds’ and the week end range warriors and nor should we. We need to rally, not point fingers. We are shooters, we are adults and we should damned well act like it.
In that vein, I would urge you: next time you hear some idiot use the term ‘Fudd’on one of our allies, do us all a favour and kick him in the nuts. Because I will tell you right now – if the gun community fragments (and it will if we let it) then I will join the Fudds and the black rifle guys are on their own.
If the term ‘fudd’ offends you you haven’t been paying attention.
I’m a hunter. I don’t consider myself a “fudd” Nor do I consider you one. the epithet is directed squarely at those who consider hunting the heart and soul of firearms necessity and all else as evil. I will continue to call those people ‘fudds’ and hope others do so.
As someone who has been hunting almost 40 years, I have to agree with og.
I believe Zumbo spoke from the heart originally, and then backed up only due to financial reasons.
I know others, including Misha and Terrible Teddy have welcomed him back to the fold. I for one, will not.
This is a common decease within the hunting/shooting community. Longbow archers hate the compound shooters and the compound shooters hate the crossbow archers. Hunters don’t care about target shooters and can’t understand why anyone needs a 50 cal. We need to stick together and join forces to fight the anti-gunners and anti-hunters. The anti’s love this shit ( when we attack each other) Zumbo should know better. It was super stupid to say those things out loud. Confess, repent, Jim. Then the rest the rest of us need to forgive him and hope we don’t say something just as dumb. Jim can come ground hog hunting with me and use one of my spare AR15’s. Black rifles may look evil to some ignorant folks but to the farmers who let me hunt, a black rifle is the right prescription medicine for their ground hog troubles.
Apologies are worth exactly nothing.
Zumbo’s apology is complete with whining about how all the gun folk “Stripped him of his career.) The dolt misses the point altogether.
The “apology,” for what it’s worth, (very little in my opinion,) is a start. Now, he needs to correct the damage.
To begin doing that, the first thing he needs to do is realize what he’s done, and that he did it all by his widdle Fudd wonesome and not by the people he stabbed in the back.
A few years of setting things aright and then we’ll see.
Gerry N.
Gerry, I’m with you. Dick, I understand. Thing is, let’s see what he does now. Anyone can fuckup, but how you make up for your fuckup, long term, shows your character. So I’ll give him another chance, but he’d better be on his best behavior.
He screwed up.
But to forgive is divine. :)
Let’s give him his chance, but keep an eye on him…
Cool, or scary, not sure. Just read your post og, and I said almost verbatim this morning.
I need a beer. I think like og, just slower?
Welcome to Hunting Advice
Hunting game for food, clothing and shelter is a big part of the story of the human race. It predates the human civilization we know today in many ways.
