Foresight
Went to an old customer over the last couple of days to redeploy a system I designed ten years ago. I had budgeted ten days, and I took exactly one.
The code was clean and tight, and I found myself thinking “damn, this is good code, it’s saving me a ton of work, I wonder who wrote it” then I saw my own plug at the bottom. I had forgotten that I followed this system out of the showroom to the customer and installed and wrote the code myself. We were tight on install guys at the time so I did it just to get us in on time.
That’s engineering, folks. When you do something well enough that it survives an obsoleted process with almost no modification.
Bet that was a sweet feeling.

Enjoy reading what you have to say and agree with most. On this topic I share a little as an non-degree civil engineer with 30+ years of experience having to train EIT’s fresh out of school. Most appreciate the guidance but every so often I meet one that dismisses me. I just let him/her blunder along and before long, he’s hung himself.

Isn’t that weird when you discover you wrote the code or built the thing?
It’s also weird to find something you know you built, you don’t remember what it was suppose to do and cannot figure it out. [because none of the IC’s are in the sockets, for example]
