Went to an old customer over the last couple of days to redeploy a system I designed ten years ago. I had budgeted ten days, and I took exactly one.

The code was clean and tight, and I found myself thinking “damn, this is good code, it’s saving me a ton of work, I wonder who wrote it” then I saw my own plug at the bottom. I had forgotten that I followed this system out of the showroom to the customer and installed and wrote the code myself. We were tight on install guys at the time so I did it just to get us in on time.

That’s engineering, folks. When you do something well enough that it survives an obsoleted process with almost no modification.
