First rifle
Today, I bought the daughter her first rifle.
She’s been shooting my partner’s old Stevens Crackshot, but it’s too old and too nice a rifle for her to quite appreciate, and frankly, it’s a bit finicky.
The folks at Kim’s Nation of Rifleman forum were kind enough to reccomend this, and the kicker was this: Took the daughter to a gun show and she saw this, fell in love. So I ordered it from my local place, all of $148, and I hope to surprise her with it come thanksgiving.
I was all prepared to spend more and buy a clipfed rifle, but then I though, hell, she’ll just want something else to grow into. So hurt me hurt me; I’ll have to buy her another rifle someday. Boo Hoo.
I’m so tickled I could giggle.
My good friend Jenny says of my training the daughter to shoot: “She’ll grow up self assured and not dependent on anyone else for anything”. I’m grinning so hard my face hurts.

Pretty!
And, yes, a good way for a girl to grow up strong.
Thanks, Tanya!
I hope someday you can come visit, meet the oglet, shoot with us.
Congratulations to the Neaderdaughter and big pat on the back to you Og.
You bought your child a firearm and are doing actual parenting. The libs will move you up on their fecal roster for that. But I’m sure you don’t mind.
Since Kim is out of the country at this time, I will do the Kim Happy Dance in his stead.
We’ll all be looking for her participation in upcoming postal matches now.
Congrats again.
Excellent!
My father did the same for me and it does build confidence and a “take no shit” attitude!
My eleven year old daughter and I shoot pellet rifles in the back yard for fun.
She’s going on her first dove hunt this coming weekend with her father.
Take care.
Thats a fine looking rifle.
Best of luck to her with it. I can’t wait to take my son out shooting – oh, in about 6 or 7 years.
Ooo, I saw that pretty at the last gun show we went to, didn’t price it though as we’d just bought the Mossberg .22. Excellent going!
I third, fourth and fifth the sentiments above…learning how to shoot young will help with her overall self-confidence, which will keep her out of most kinds of trouble.
