There’s that moment
WHen you get your hands on something SO good to eat, that you horf down the first bite in gleeful eagerness, without chewing to the usual mush consistency, and then realize this is going to be a bad couple moments.
That is a habit that will take it’s time breaking.

hmmm… damn-near choked, dintcha?
Not choked. Had to bring the unchewed piece back up
Hi Og, I’m Sam. I HEAR YA, man. I had the LAP band procedure as well, last January. So not only can’t I eat huge amounts of food, I can’t even inhale the miniscule amount I AM able to eat. LOL It’s a major adjustment, my friend.
Tell me, do you see ur MD for band adjustments every so often? I have to, about every six weeks, because the band doesn’t stay super tight forever; it gets a little looser as time goes on. Which can be a good thing; it keeps my discipline up. Get up off my ass and keep this thing going, you know?
I takes about 2 or 3 years. It usually happens, not when something is marvelously good, but when you are REALLY hungry. You take that first bite, two chomps, and swallow… and then have that “uh oh” reminder.
You can also get into the habit of taking a few sips of a drink with some sort of benefit/sugar content. That will slow you down.
The solution is not to stop yourself from scarfing (you can’t really), but to prevent the hunger that makes you forget not to. Keep snack foods around, like peanuts and such, that will head off the scarf response.
My worst one was going to a wedding, after spending the entire day shopping for what to wear to it. I arrived at the evening reception having eaten NOTHING all day. When the rolls came to the table I scarfed two bites. Well, I don’t have to tell you how that went down (or got stuck). That meant that I had no protein in me at all, just two bites of roll stuck in the pipe. The ONLY thing to drink to try to dislodge it was champagne, and I got fabulously smashed.
I did, finally, eliminate the roll blockage, while praying to the porcelain god… when my boss’s wife walked in, mid heave. Lovely sight, I was.
indeed, sam
