Dad’s day and then some
Spent yesterday preparing, and today cooking, a lunch for family and friends. There were eight of us all told, and a couple more came by later, for chicken, tater salad, devilled eggs, several other dishes and stuff. A summer cookout, basically.
I have a good chicken recipe Dad used to use, which has been improved a bit by the beer-butt method, and made four big fryers, one of which still rests in the kitchen, awaiting attack later. Due to other obligations several intended guests were not able to make it, so we ended up with enough extra food to.. well, to feed the hungarian militia.
Needless to say we’ll be doing leftovers a while.
After dinner Partner and I went to Gander Mountain where they are selling ex-mil P-01 pistols. These are basically refurb P-38’s, but with the aluminum frame rather than the steel one. They brought one out that was so nice Partner decided then and there to take one home with him. If I hadn’t been broke as shit I would have bought one too.
He was pretty amazed that in 15 minutes with an NCICS check he was able to walk out of the store with a firearm and 100 rounds of ammo. I told him- so long as there are conservatives around anyway- God Bless America.
Happy father’s day, Y’all.

Goddamn I need to move the hell out of The People’s Republik of Illinois…
Sounds like a fun dad’s day. I’m looking forward to moving closer to home (VA) so I rekindle w/my dad our fishing outings. Should even be more fun when I can call myself “dad” too.
