The incredible shrinking man
yesterday, I changed the starter in my doctor’s car, and mowed the backyard.
THese are not really remarkable things in and of themselves, but they are amazing, considering
1: I mowed the lawn- including the back slope, which is about a 40 degree slope- by myself. In a couple hours. Never done it alone before, I always had the nephew help me. And it damned near killed us. THis time, by myself, like falling off a log. And the grass was nearly 18″ tall. Yes, pushmower.
2:the starter? I was waist deep under the doctor’s truck, loosening the starter bolts, when I realized, hey, I didn’t have to lift this bastard and put it on blocks, I just crawled up underneath. And tonight, I pulled the gas tank off mom’s car, and didn’t need to put it on jacks either. Six months, ago, this would have been an ordeal that involved lifting the cars, Now, I just slide underneath. A totally unexpected benefit.

Speaking of which, when can we do my bearing or whatever the hell? Also, I think it’s time for a tuneup; I’m real sluggish at acceleration.
Have to wait to next weekend, but yeah. You coming to Ogfest?
You know, mowing the lawn is one thing I do not miss as a byproduct of home ownership…
Being able to turn my stereo up as loud as I like, though…
Way cool! Congratulations, man!

That reminds me of changing the starter on my Mercedes.
The thing it brings up is that, on that car, unlike Every Other Car I’ve Ever Heard Of, the starter comes out the top.
Oh, it’s still located on the bottom edge of the engine, but you can’t get it out downwards without taking the suspension apart. You have to pull the heater coolant return line and take it up upwards.
It helps, figuring this out, if you don’t have people who worked in a slightly different model telling you “oh, it comes out on the bottom, you just have to align the wheels just right and wiggle it”.
It also helps if you’re not doing it while lying on your back in a puddle, because it’s raining.
damn, Og… that is awesome progress!
Good on ya.
Is it next weekend? Because I have to review a play Friday night (!) and then got roped into karaoke (!!), but if it’s Saturday, I should be able to make it.
tomorrow, broad.
Oh. (tilts head like a blonde)
What time?
630
Congrats, my friend! That’s huge (no pun intended). I’m glad to hear the surgery-and-weight-loss are coming along smoothly. I’ve heard it’s a tough road and from everything I’ve read you’ve handled it admirably.
Bravo, Og !Look forward to your next visit.
