The Reader is a Chicago paper no more
The Reader, long bastion of postmodern hippie goofiness, has been sold
Typical of limousine liberals, the owners have been made millionaires, and are now bailing off to their eco-friendly mansions in the suburbs,. leaving the staff to fend for themselves.
Ordinarily I wouldn’t give a shit about unemployed hippies, but a dear friend of mine has been supplimenting her income doing work with the Reader for years. The widow’s mite she got for her work (she worked from home, she lives near Atlanta) will be sorely missed. Maybe the new overlords will keep her on, maybe not. One way or another, it’s going to change. Keep her in your prayers, she’s someone who could use a leg up.

This paper’s always been my Official Guide to the Weekend in Chicago. I understand they’re planning local management. A lot of things will be done in Atlanta, so your friend may make out with this.
Now with the internet, newspaper is going by the wayside. They sold it when the getting was good, before it collapsed. Before, it was the Chicago Reader or nothing. Now it’s the Reader, Time Out Chicago, Metromix, New City, etc.
When they redesigned the paper and put a color front on it, I wondered why they did that, and not just go with only an Internet edition and do away with print. Charge ad space on the site.
I loved the features. They were as close as a paper can get to being unbiased a lot of times. The story told the story. It had a human feeling that lacks in a lot of issues based articles nowadays.
Atlanta founded, but Tampa based Creative Loafing bought that paper. Another Hippie-dippy rag. Maybe they will have liberal heart and not do the capitalist downsizing that we both know the papers need in order to be profitable. Just Damn!
