Having gone afield early for the first time, I can safely say THIS SUCKS GOAT PECKER FROM HELL.
I mean, I love to hunt, love to be in the woods, love the outdoors.
And the mosquitoes are so fucking annoying that it makes me want to live in a spacesuit.
I had a can of Deepwoods off with 296% Deet, and I sprayed the entire can (14 ounces) on me.
THis made the mosquitoes- if you can believe it, MORE annoying. Now, they’re buzzing around my face as if to say “i’m NOT LANDINg on you! I’m NOT BITING you!” It’s like having sixteen billion five year olds in the car.
Didn’t even get to nock an arrow.
Took four minutes to shower the deet off me. And Speedway chili cheese dog farts in the shower is a bad idea.
Siqto’s not bad here. Did have an occasional buzz but they went away. Was in an urban hunt area. Had good range on two does, they just didn’t stop moving. A spike buck gave me a good shot, but can’t shoot buck at this location.
Overall fairly enjoyable morning.

But see, if those had been Skyline coneys instead, well… I guess the farts would have been as bad.

Thermacell works great, and it’s not very expensive.
Have you ever tried Avon Skin-So-Soft for repelling skeeters? Works great for me. I even hose my boots, socks and cuffs to drive ticks away.
The problem is that around Northern Indiana right now the mosquitoes are snorting Deep Woods Off and drinking Skin-so-Soft and asking each other “Do you have a buzz yet?”

The fokkers are mostly gone here in NH, but my remedy?
Big, stinky cigars. Or a pipe, if you prefer.
You can barely hear the buzz, they stay so far away.
