Next step
Compression test OK. Wthin spec on all eight.
Plugs 1,2, 5,6,7,8 smelled like gas, and were, in fact, wet. Plugs 3 and 4 were bone dry. When doing the comp test I smelled gas on the above listed cylinders and not on 3 and 4.
The cylinders (all cold, so not the best circumstances) were all beteween 100 and 140, and my cheapo tester is leaky, so I suspect the actual numbers are much closer.
So I think I’m looking at injectors. And I have a couple ideas about cleaning them. And I’ll replace them all, if need be.

About six months ago my f150 started to skip a little at low rpm under load. Replaced plugs and wires and it seemed fine for about a month then it started to skip again, I was at a loss for the next step and talked to a friend who works in the local ford dealership. He talked me into letting a tech drive it with fords anilyzer(sp?) hooked up, the tech came back and says your #3 spark plug wire is bad. I say that its just been replaced and he comes back with “you can get new ones that are bad, where did you buy the set?” I bought the set from that very dealer and to my great suprise, they replace the wire(that I installed) and did not charge me a cent.Problem fixed. How did that machine diagnose a bad plug wire on the OBD port? Long story short, do you think a few bucks spent at a dealer might save you some grief?
Seafoam I do not know what it is made from but it will clean anything out of a fuel system, makes MEK look like coolaide. Half the cars in west Texas pass the smog test because of this stuff
Blind, the dealer was the one who reccomended the Cat replacement ($1600) that fixed nothing. And charged me $100 for the privelege.
That sucks, I had a bad experience at another Ford dealer a couple years ago, my old Aerostar work vans right front brake caliper locked up while I was working out of town. Got it to the local dealer late on friday and told them to check it out and call me on Monday with estimate, the call came Monday afternoon, late, $790.00. Had to call in a favor and get a friends car trailer and haul it home. Fixed it for less than $200 with parts from my local Ford dealer. I guess it pays to know the hired help.
