Want to piss me off?
Tell me that the new Ipod I bought for my daughtrer cannot connect to EITHER OF THE COMPUTERS IN THE HOUSE. And then have Apple Support tell me that they won’t support Win2k.
Nice. fucktards. My daughter’s Christmas present is now useless until I can afford to buy her an XP computer. Scumbags. Rot in hell, Apple.

That is a pretty harsh statement considering you just download the older version of iTunes and it works. As thats what my sister did and it worked. If this doesn’t work I’m sure she wouldn’t mind uploading songs at her friends house/computer?
There’s your answer. At least, I hope it is.
Um, No, JustGareth. It doesn’t.
And Yes, She would.
Jesus. Apple retards at this time of the evening.
Need a copy of XP? Or are you wedded to Win2k. Not that there is anything wrong with that, just curious.
I have to use Win2k on the big box. I think I may see if I can upgrade the daughter’s computer enough to take XP.
Hell Og,
I have an old rig that I used to run XP on just sitting next to my gun safe that is free for the taking!
Say the word, send me a shipping address, and she’s yours. All you need to do is buy a new hard drive and get a copy of XP.
Just let me know..
Take it back and buy her a Zune.
Kelly loves hers. Fuck Apple.
You could try WinAmp; the current version claims to support the latest non-touch/phone iPods.
(I hate and despise WinAmp, myself, but it should WORK, and that’s a lot better than iTunes NOT working.)
For that matter, if you can pay shipping (eBay context suggests about $50 – because jesus christ it’s heavy) I have an old 500mhz iMac I can give you to plug it in to.
I’ve run XP on crap-ass little Point-of-Sale terminals with a tiny CPU and 512M of ram. I’m sure you can get XP on daughterComp, but if you can just run WinAmp, that’s arguably better. Certainly less work.
(On the other hand, it’s not like Apple claims to support anything earlier than XP SP2 with the iPod. They didn’t lie to you about what an iPod will work with, so they’re not exactly bastardly, I think.
They can’t realistically support 2k; it’d cost a lot of QA time and effort for little benefit; roughly 0% of the customer-base uses 2k these days.)
Yeah, still. Thanks, what zi need is to snag a copy of XP home and do that.
Is the old XP a Dell? If so I have a copy that can upgrade it. You have the address if you want. I’ve got another copy that fell off a truck I could clone for you if the PC is not a dell.
Indeed it is, Paul. I may well take you up on that offer.
Got here from Eternity Road, just my two cents here, get a Sansa, Sandisk makes those. The new version got 8 GB of memory and many have slots for SD or MicroSD for expansion so theoretically you can have an mp3 player with about 10 GB of storage. Oh yeah, Win2k sees it as an external flash drive, just drag and drop the mp3 files and be done with.
Easy and awesome, much like PB&J sandwich.
I was running ITunes on a Win2k box and the IPod worked fine. I don’t remember any of the details (from a year ago) but I believe it’s doable.
Send me an e-mail with some particulars and I’ll get a copy going.
This may or may not be germane to the discussion, but Win2k sucks goat boils. If I had a machine that ran Win2k today, I would just stab my eyeballs with a fork…it’d be less painful.
If I ever saw Bill gates, I’d kick him in the ‘nads just for having ever released Win2k, such a kludgy piece of shit OS it was.
W2K?
and i used think you were smart
win2k has run flawlessly on my home machine-never ever failed once- since 2000. can any apple user say that? plus I push this machine hard. I use this machine at 100 percent processer utilization for eight, ten hours at a time.
I’ll second Og’s defense of 2k. I ran 2k for years, and it was fine.
I prefer XP, but at the time XP wasn’t out, and 2k was better than NT4 or 98/ME.
(Though I can also say that OSX doesn’t fail me either. Nor does XP.
Failures of modern OSes usually mean bad hardware, bad drivers, or crappy third-party software running with direct hardware access [crappy DirectX games being the main culprit]. 2k is as vulnerable as anything else to all three of those.
The core OSes are all quite stable these days.)
