Ogfest update
It has come to my attention that Starved Rock state park is close at hand to the Buffalo Range in Ottawa, IL. There is camping with hookups, if you have such equipment, but there is also a lodge– including modern AND “frontier” cottages, and regular hotel rooms. (even the frontier cottages have bathrooms, some also have fireplaces)
This is some distance from shopping, of course, but there are some places closer than Chicago, such as Aurora which is around 43 miles away.
What say ye, evil minions?

As long as it falls on a weekend I’m home, I’d be there. Depending on my mood I might even primitive camp. Let you see how real men do it. :)
LOL! Contagion, I can match you anyday. And I’ve slept places you probably wouldn’t. But it WOULD be amusing to have the women see how it’s done.
I’ve never been to Starved Rock, and always thought it looked like a great place to visit. While you’re out shooting boomsticks, I’ll be out shooting photos. Save a spot for me!
Er, Illinois?
Eeeew.
Trust me, not my idea of a good time. I’d prefer any free state- but this places huge hardships on a lot of the bloggers in question.
Actually if you get south of I-80 (though some place the line further south … past Peoria), the state is pretty darn conservative. There just isn’t enough of us to displace the trash from Chicago. (Or the asshats in Springfield for that matter.)
Haven’t been to Starved Rock in about 40 years. The folks took us youngens there when we were on the kid side of teen age. There is also a casino in Aurora for those so inclined.
I would be all over it, I could pull the pop-up and have a good old time or tent camp. I had enough of that sleeping under the stars crap when I was in the employ of Uncle Sam.
Have we set a date for this yet?
