Just had enough
I have looked at all of the local retailers and could not find a pair of the boots I wanted.
I’ve been looking for Danner Desert Acadias.

Nobody has them locally, and nobody wants to order them. Gander Mountain. Cabelas. Bubkhis.
So I found the bastards online. Made in America. Gore-Tex. Should be here in a week.
At least I weas able to try on a pair of similar boots at Cabelas so I could confirm sizing- but damn. What’s the big deal, folks? You have $10,000 rifles, why not carry $200 boots?

They look decent enough. If I still bothered to hunt, I’d probably own a pair.
Dick, I wanted something made in the USA, that could be resoled. I intend to keep them forever. If they’re good enough for the USMC, I’ll do fine. I’d have bought an INfantry pair, just because of you, if they sold ’em.
Those look like the ones issued to me in the Gulf War Follies of 91.
Nicest boots I ever strapped on.
Light cool supple comfy and flexible.
I wore the lugs right off the bottom of them.
Gotta link?

Og, it’s probably because Cabela’s offered Danner Boot a turkey deal, probably wanting 80% of the profit on every npair or something predatory like that. Nike, Inc is known for hijacking small sporting goods stores like that.
Sorry, old buddy. If you had noted that Danner Boot is an Oregon corporation, you would have suspected that I could go to the factory and pick them up for less and mail them to you, and you would have been correct.
Might be needing another pair someday, Dog.
Mark, here’s the link:

Footwear is one thing to never go cheap with. Bad shoes screw with your frame from the feet through the spine to the head. I bought a $200 pair of Matterhorns in the Army 19 years ago, and I still have them. They keep my feet warm without causing sweating, and I’m a heavy sweater, are waterproof, odorless still, they accomodate my wide foot, the tread has not cracked, and the leather has remained supple. American Made.
I own a pair of Danner Acadias. Bought them back in ’94. They are on their third soles, but going strong. Bought them from D&R Sports.

lots of shoes
Dad had a pair of boots years ago that were dual-duty — they fit over his shoes, or they could be worn shoeless with a thick felt liner. They were great big mukluk things, lighter than they looked, comfortable as all hell, and I wish I could find them again. Can’t even remember the name of the company that made them.
A good boot is a thing of beauty.
leather, nate, or rubber/leather?
Best boots I ever owned was a nasty ass pair of used (that’s right, used) Government issued Jungle boots. They stayed wet or submersed under swap or river water at one point for forty-five days and then some.
I’m still paying for that, to this very day, but those boots came home with me.
