New range
Some friends have been bugging me to get out and mneet them at their super-sekrit private range, and I did, finally, today.
Wow.
An incredible facility- that’s all there is to say about it. And cheap- $150 for hte first year, $100 a year after. Here’s the nicest part: You have to do 12 hours of range KP every year. Not a hardship, right? Amazinglyt, that by itself keeps the assholes away.
I went today to start putting in my 12 hours. I walked the property fence with the property manager and another member, and I have to tell you, a beautiful property, and the 12 hours is gonna fly by. I suspect I’ll have that over with in another couple weeks.
To a man: strong, hard hands. These men WORK. They spend their lives working. And do so, here, on weekends, because they enjoy the sport. I’m shooting against them, tomorrow, in a rifle competition. If I come in last, it will be one of the very best days of my life. Anyone who lives in NW indiana- who doesn’t know of the place- I’d be tickled to sponsor you when I become a member.

My buddy belongs to a similar facility with similar dues and 8 hrs duty usually a group day.
He sponsored me but I never took him up on it. It’s 45 minutes away and I haven’t had any spare time outside of work for a year and a half now. But I’d like to.
Where about in Lake County is this range, my brother lives in Lowell and any ranges they had are now gone to hell.
Andy- it’s in Chesterton. Willow SLough is closer to Lowell, and it’s a nice range too- and free.
That’s one of the beauties about Ranges with onerous entry requirements – it keeps the riffraff out. That, and you can throw them out if they prove to be problems. About 10 years ago my local club had a “purge” where they permanently ejected 3 members. Those 3 members(out of 500 or so) caused 98% of the problems at the club.
Cool. My club requires 8 hours of work a year, or else $100. The BOD constantly complains about not having enough bodies to get the necessary work done. I have suggested, and I can’t be the only one, to raise the 8 hours to 12, but no dice.
The 8 hours/year or $100 does not keep the riffraff out.
