because when I saw this, I thought “What’s the big deal about nine knobs?”

What if it was hex?
ok, 4097 would be some knobs.
…and the first thing I thought was:
Heh Heh, Heh Heh, he said “knobs”! Heh Heh
That’s how far you are ahead of me.
@ Slash: THANK YOU! My sentiments exactly.
There was a discount department store here in Cincinnati that sold stereo equipment cheap. At one time in the ’70s or ’80s, they had the marketing tag: “We like it when you play with our knobs.”
I see 1001 and think, “Serial port.”
Diff’rent strokes, I guess.

Actually, the 1001 on a serial port indicates the binary being transferred. And the “1001” is nine- as in DB-9
Dammit Og, you know there are only 10 types of people in this world…
DanB
I remember Naval Avionics “A” school in Millington, learning binary, hex, BCD, gray-code, etc. Some things stick in your head & never leave.
Right there with you Tennessee Budd but for me it was FT”A” school Great Mistakes.
TB, what is gray-code? I got the binary and hex – Radioman “A” school, San Diego.
I once saw 00101010 on a black t-shirt, and quietly said, “Yeah, that’s the answer” to the dude wearing it, who co-knowingly nodded back.
I felt both proud at being so incredibly knowledgeable and ashamed at being such a geek all at the same moment.
Gray code is a binary code where only one bit changes between successive numbers.
0 0000 1 0001 2 0011 3 0010 and so on.
@Broad: You’re welcome. I am a geek in my own right, just not on this stuff.
Ya mean that’s not an emoticon?
I thought, “There’s a grammatical mistake in that sentence.”
yeah, “a” doesn’t fit.
I was balancing my checkbook once and I kept getting it wrong. After about 0101 minutes of thinking about it, I realized I was doing it in octal.
Ride, I’d love to see the speedo dial on that Trumpet of yours!
