Kelly’s Car
Dick says “This car gave it up for Kelly. I’m grateful beyond words for the engineering.”

Hoo Fucking Rah, Master Sergeant. Truer words are never spoken- as Alger et al can attest, the car’s job is to protect it’s owner, and this little bugger did just that for Kelly. Me, I wish it’d been just a little bigger, so Kelly didn’t have any injury at all, but I’m tickled she’s whole. All the airbags did their job and the front crumple zones- well- crumpled.
As for the driver of the other car, he was originally unhurt, but Dick will eventually post an adress to send flowers.

Hey, I didn’t mess around with any namby-pamby fender-bender. I did it up right.
In all seriousness though, that car saved my life yesterday. I walked away from a practically head-on 45mph crash with just a broken arm and bad bruising. I appreciate all of your good thoughts and well wishes.
You can call me “lefty” from now on.
The other driver was an eighteen year old kid who made a bad mistake. A simple error in judgment.
I’m just glad Kelly was out of surgery in two hours and only has two pins in her right arm. Any worse and yeah, it might have gotten ugly. The cops and firemen were gifts from heaven. I can’t thank them enough for their work.
His mom and dad showed up a few minutes after the crash and apologized up and down for his mistake, they didn’t have to. They had full coverage and had no problems sharing.
Their insurance (Nationwide) claims agent was a bit cocky till I informed her that my wife was heading into surgery (45 minutes after the crash) in an attempt to repair the massive damage to her right arm.
Some titanium pins, a couple of sweaty hours of hard work by a good orthopedic doc, and a lot of care is what it took to put her back together.
Today she hurts bad, but she should recover fully.
The kid is forgiven. Shit happens. Hopefully he’ll learn from it and not let it happen again.
Last thing. She was doing approximately 50mph in the middle lane when the kid in his ’94 4Runner turned left into her.
We’re fortunate it was a glancing head on blow instead of straight head on. That might have killed her, and so on with the youngster.
As it was, her Eclipse ended up 100 feet or so away and crashed into several old cars in a tote-the-note lot.
Good Gawd. Another example of how life can change irretrievably in an instant.
Looks like Kelly was wearing her seat belts, too. Damn good thing. Seat belts save lives; there is No Excuse for going without ’em.
Speedy recovery, and all that. Wow.
Hooh-fucking-rah!
Yeah, looks like the car took it on the chin. There’s something to crumple-zone engineering; again, even though I don’t know her, I’m glad Kelly and the kid are ok.
And yes – hopefully the kid learned something about trying to beat oncoming traffic, and will be paranoid-careful in the future.
You’re right, Og. These pictures bring back memories of NOD’s accident this past January.NOD is healing and returned to work about six weeks ago. She’ll have a second arm surgery in the winter. And, her car gave it’s life as well. I’m glad to hear that Kelly is doing well and we wish her a speedy recovery.

Nest wishes for a speedy recovery. WE all know she needs the use of both arms to keep Dick in line.
Yes, it’s not easy to wield that cattle prod with just one arm.
Get well soon, Kelly.
Ouch! I’m glad the Eclipse was able to provide enough protection. I’m also glad that the boy and his parents were so contrite. Seems like in this area at least, people are likely to be mad at you for being in their way. I’ll say a prayer for a speedy recovery.
So glad you are doing better, Kelly. And it’s nice of you and dick to be so magnanimous. Spectacular wreck, though.
Oh my god, Kelly! I’m glad you’re ok!
I’m so glad Kelly’s okay.
The planet needs her.
