An aphorism for our time.
From Pascal, on his frustration over the most recent Savage Brouhaha:
“Stop silencing watchdogs, start punishing criminals”
I cannot but agree.

Thank you. I hope I’ve provided others with something to snarl the next time some “liberal” claims to be protecting someone’s feelings instead of protecting them from real criminals.
Besides, there is probably a grain of truth to what Savage says. 99%? Probably not. A high percentage? Quite possibly. There is so much ADHD and Asberger’s (mis?)diagnosed these days that you have to wonder if it’s really all about the money involved. See Jerry Pournelle at http://www.jerrypournelle.com/view/2008/Q3/view528.html and pull about halfway down the page to the section beginning with “I see some shock jock denounced autism as a racket.”
Even if it was an exaggeration, Nathan, it’s no damned reason to crucify the messenger, as you say. Though some of the things I’m reading seem to make the 99% figure seem an underexaggeration.
