If you’re ever in central ontario
You owe it to yourself to stop in at Pine River Cheese.
We stopped on our way back sunday (they’re open sundays in the summer) and got some curds (they squeak when you chomp ’em if they’re really fresh) and some cheddar and some other goodstuff. The only problem is the damned decisions you have to make. But damn, the cheese!
They have a great deal of their own cheese, made there. I mean, made in the next room from where they sell it. And those cows along the highway, as you’re driving? came form their milk. It’s a nice local co-op and I’m pleased to say we’ve been shopping there a while.
I love the havarti and gruyere and stilton the best, but all the cheese they have is great. It’s not got the variety or size of Mars Cheese castle, but the cheese is good, and the people are incredibly pleasant.
