Changes
I have lost a bucket of weight since my lap band, and it has been a long road, but I’m still slowly losing and doing ok.
The realities of life with a reduced stomach content are a constant companion, and this was never more in my mind than in Africa, where starvation is not difficult to find.
I lost, in fact, over 17 lbs in Africa, in two weeks. I’ve kept most of that off, and it’s because of a few things that have changed, in me.
As an example, yesterday, I bought a candy bar. Not a common occurrence, but I still have a chocolate monkey on my back. And halfway to work, I opened it, took a bite, and tasted that it had melted.
If you don’t know chocolate, you might not be aware that if a candy bar gets melted and re hardens, it takes on a kind of a gritty texture. it’s horrid, and two years ago I would just have soldiered on, eaten it, and ignored the nastiness.
Yesterday, I tasted the gritty, refrozen bar, and tossed it out. It’s just not worth it. Life is too short to eat bad shit.
yeah, I’m changing.

Your blog makes it easier to soldier on, here in the Peoples’ Soviet of Illinois. Keep it up.
Congratulations on the weight loss. I remember you blogging about how difficult it was for you trying conventional methods. It’s great that the surgery is really working!
Your success is encouraging. Thanks for sharing it.
I guess I may as well admit I’ve got a band too and have lost about 150lbs. They work. They are kind of annoying sometimes. Anyhow, hope you lose as you want to. I need to lose about a hundred more.
og,
That’s one of the biggest changes I noticed as well – being a helluva lot more picky – from my own weight loss.
I’ll only eat good pizza when I’m going to indulge. Greasy shitty crap with thin sauce and cardboard crust can sit in the box now; I do not feel compelled to help myself to a couple of slices.
Haven’t eaten in McDonald’s in years upon years for the same reason – if I’m going to have a burger, it’s going to be a *GOOD* burger, not a processed POS…
‘fess up. The 17 pounds you lost in Africa came during the one epic spaghetti dump, didn’t it?
Hard to tell, weet. Could be, though.
