I have lost a bucket of weight since my lap band, and it has been a long road, but I’m still slowly losing and doing ok.

The realities of life with a reduced stomach content are a constant companion, and this was never more in my mind than in Africa, where starvation is not difficult to find.

I lost, in fact, over 17 lbs in Africa, in two weeks. I’ve kept most of that off, and it’s because of a few things that have changed, in me.

As an example, yesterday, I bought a candy bar. Not a common occurrence, but I still have a chocolate monkey on my back. And halfway to work, I opened it, took a bite, and tasted that it had melted.

If you don’t know chocolate, you might not be aware that if a candy bar gets melted and re hardens, it takes on a kind of a gritty texture. it’s horrid, and two years ago I would just have soldiered on, eaten it, and ignored the nastiness.

Yesterday, I tasted the gritty, refrozen bar, and tossed it out. It’s just not worth it. Life is too short to eat bad shit.

yeah, I’m changing.
