Sigh.
Saturday went afield and saw a nice deer within five minutes.
Now I love shooting over iron, and I can reach out to 100 yards with the Marlin, no problem, iron sights and all. I drew a bead on that sucker, and thought, “does that deer have antlers?”
I couldn’t tell. And I wasn’t going to kill an illegal deer.
So I stopped on the way home and picked up a set of rings for the Marlin and mounted an old 3-9 power on it.
Hell to get old. I bought seethroughs, so I could use the scope to see if it was a male, and shoot it with iron. Damned if I’ll give up my principles just for convenience.

If you had a doe tag, you could’ve shot it either way.
Not the point Orangey! You never pull the trigger on anything your not sure of!
Yup, hell to get old and lose sight along with other things. Too bad youth is wasted on the young!
This is Indiana. You can only hunt buck wiht firearms.
I’ll be 40 next year and I have 20/15 vision thanks to modern miracles like the laser. I had Lasik done 7 years ago and I am so freaking glad I did. Sucks getting old, but I take CoQ10 for healthy heart function and skin rejuvenation & red yeast rice extract for cholesterol reduction. People tell me I look 28. I don’t plan on growing old gracefully; I intend to fight it every step of the way.
Thing was, Og was sure it was a deer, but couldn’t make out whether or not it had antlers. As for only being able to hunt bucks with firearms, I did not know that. Here on Long Island, bow season doesn’t end till Dec. 31. Good luck with the buck, Og.
I can take a doe with a bow. But I only had my rifle.
I could have Lasik but it doesn’t fix presbyopia.
This is the guy I had do my Lasik. He’s awesome. You might want to give him a call and talk to him about it. He has a treatment for presbyopia: http://www.kellyvisioncenter.com/presbyopia.html
Even if you don’t come up here to get it done, you could call him and see if there’s someone down there that he could recommend. Or at the least, gather information.
I already have about the best guy in North America. And I’m not going to mess with my eyes as long as I can get corrected. My guy helped develop ReStor, and he doesn’t reccomend it for me, yet.
My brother has rings on his rifle to unlock on one side and is hinged on the other side, so you can flip the scope out of the way of the iron sights. I’ll have to ask him who makes those and where he got them from.
Leupold and Weaver both make them. I got seethroughs, which are fine too.
Ummm… binocular maybe?
its a timing issue, double.
…. I had three doe in the front yard yesterday…. and saw a beautiful 8 or 10 point buck in the back yard last week…..
Now you could come south, Alabama limit is 1 a DAY, no not a misprint :)
Too bad I got no one that wants to trounce around in the woods with me, guess it’s the woman with a firearm that scares them?
